Great to see Willock and Saka scoring tonight. I thought both were excellent against Frankfurt. Created loads of chances and Willock in particular is brilliant at playing the ball out of defence, through the midfield and into attacking positions. Great box to box play.
Yep the youngsters put in a very good display. Sakas goal was class. Willock was excellent again - really liking the look of him the guy is full of energy.
Thought ESR also had a decent game also.
On the other hand we were defensively shocking again - they had 16 shots against us. Its not just the personnel it's the tactics - something is'nt right here we are just soo open.
Yeah we were horribly exposed at the back. And it's not the back 4's fault. Just think we need Torreira and Xhaka to sit deep and screen the back 4.
We can play a 4-2-3-1 and still have an attacking set up, but we really need to make sure that our back line doesn't keep getting exposed. It's far too easy for teams to play through us atm
It is all about balance though. Everyone is playing a press now, and if you get too many people behind the ball you get pressed more easily. It s easy to criticise players like Mustafi, Ozil and Xhaka who are maybe not as sound defensively, but you need them in the team to beat the press coming out.
We got horribly stuck in defense against Watford, after Ozil, Ceballos, and Guendouzi were off. You can easily claim that those three are less effective defensively than the three that came on, yet the defensive performance got worse. Before that last half hour, Watford were not playing through us. Watch the game again, most of the chances in the first half were shots from in front of the defence. That isn't the other team "playing through us", You love the other team taking that sort of chance.
You are always going to give up chances you can even give up more chances if they are low % efforts. Every now and again, a team will take a few against the odds, like Norwich did against Man City. We were doing fine until we lost all forward progress against Watford.

They both had good games. And they are both really quick. What’s more they can both actually defend. When we get these two back in the first XI it’s going to improve our fullback positions no end

today gives us an opportunity to go into third above the other top four contenders after they’ve all had poor results and with Chelsea playing pool.
After the frustrating result against Watford we need a win today.
I was at the Watford game and spent the second half pulling my hair out at Xhaka in particular but the defence and Emery’s decision making infuriated me just as much! We really need to be better.
I hope Ozil is playing - he was a step above the rest against Watford and he needs to play a bigger part this season.

How can it be that hard to get this group of players to play decent football? 40+ prem games later and this is it? I just don't get it. Anyone know who the main group of people were who chose Emery? Are they still at arsenal?
