so disappointing. Weve done **** all this second half since Palace scored. Were so damn inconsistent, its the story of our season.
I actively dislike watching this team and its so frustrating. There is no sense of urgency, no desire to win games - even in situations where we need teh result.
Well huge win really. I have to say I thought we were pretty **** today. Pepe on the other hand was class - he was the difference (along with Martinelli)
Good to see us finishing the season well. As **** as we've been. Win our last game and we could actually finish this season in a respectable position.
well if : West ham fail to beat West Brom and Southampton Spurs fail to beat Leicester Everton fail to beat City and we win our game against Brighton then we finish 6th. Its a lot, but certainly not impossible.
I thought the scoreline flattered us and I was hugely frustrated with how we played for large chunks of the game. Arteta still hasn't shown anything to me that suggests we will see big improvements next season. But anyway, glad to get a win against a Palace team who have been a real thorn in our side the last few years. That was our 1st win against them in 7 games. Happy that Pepe scored two high-quality goals and Martinelli making an impact too. It's a shame Arteta didn't look to utilise these players earlier and persisted with Willian for so long... Still in with a chance of a European spot and finishing above Spurs, which would give me a wry smile if it transpires. Let's see what happens.
Well although we are still playing badly and not creating much at all. If you look at the results Arsenal are actually improving..
Given we won the first two games of the season, it makes you realise how utter dogshit we were in those next 12 games...
Totally!!! Think about it....we should have finished the season with circa 74 pts!!! (based on beating Brighton next w/e and if we average 2pts/game from that dreadful 12 game run)...Without that ridiculous blip spell, based on the current table we would/should have finished at least equal 2nd. Okay we might be 2nd based on the last 23 games but we are still ****e for 75% of those games.. says a lot for us and the rest of the PL teams! Been a crazy 12 months!
But yeah the issue for me is we dont really have much identity or playing style. (Which was kind of true under Emery too.) At least when we have 5 at the back it was clear Arteta was trying to play a counter-attacking style. These days I have no idea. Either we are a defensive team that does'nt defend that well or an attacking team that is'nt creating anything.
Overall we have been **** this season. Albeit with some flashes of potential of what we could be. Whilst it's encouraging to see on paper that we're improving in terms of points gained. I still feel that some of our games could have either way as we're just so unpredictable. We could have easily lost that game against Chelsea, but we came away with 3 points. And on the flip side, we've had some horrendous VAR decisions go against us that have cost us points.
So we finish 8th. Poor poor poor season. To be honest I didn’t mind if we finished 7th or 8th today as both have advantages / disadvantages. I really had no interest in playing in the Conference League. It will be interesting to see if we are more “fresh” next season for our league games.
Good to finish the season with 5 wins on the trot. But it's been a poor season. Glad we're not in that 3rd division euro pot, that is a load of **** and would just end up being a distraction. Next season has to better. Let's see what we can do in the summer and go from there.
FT. Arsenal 2-0 Brighton. Very enjoyable performance overall, shame we couldn't score more goals though. Thank god the entire season is over. Very strange, damaging and frustrating overall. Expected better, and having been 15th at Christmas time, it felt as if we were in a battle to avoid relegation. We've somehow managed to match last season's 8th placed finish. Although obviously, with not winning a domestic trophy, we now face our 1st year out of Europe in 26 years. I'll confess that I wasn't against being part of the European Conference League - but only because I wanted us to give game time to our youth and fringe players. Wouldn't have bat an eyelid if we won it or not. It's essentially the Intertoto Cup rebranded. At least finishing out of it means we have Thursday nights free and that we have the perfect reasons to cull our congested squad. Also means we only have the league to prioritise. As well as new signings, we need incumbent players to leave. Let's hope for a big summer. It will be a defining one.
Thoughts on our line up next season ? .......................Leno......................... New RB....Gabriel....Saliba/Mari....Tierney Smith-Rowe.......Willock............Saka Pepe...........Martinelli...........Auba
I certainly hope we don’t make just ONE signing in terms of the starting lineup. also Willock should be sold. Have we learned nothing from AMN?
