Well done, mate ............. Keep going strong. I may make much of having a tipple here and there but truth is ........... I only let my hair down once a week, pretty much the same for the past 30 odd years.
Lighter fluid. Its a far superior drink to meths. Interesting phenomenon growing older, I drink most days but rarely more than a glass or two of wine. Cut out spirits on doctors advice last year, haven't missed it at all, though the cupboard full of single malt is a shame. Definitely quality rather than quantity now. Brunello for the special occasions, local bitter on the rare occasions I'm in a pub, Guinness when there is no hand pulled stuff. Tequila, pernod and brandy off the menu for years after horrible self inflicted pain in less controlled times. Oh yes, you should never mix your drinks. http://youtu.be/PWPgA_wgPoA
I like a nice Ribera del Duero (Protos) and of course a high grade Rioja (Marques de Murrieta), but for everyday drinking give me a Rooibos every time, great tea!!!
Can't beat a cup of milky Darjeeling in the morning Elsewhere I'm somewhat between SB & über - I like a Guinness, caol Isla, a decent half bottle of claret and particularly fond of an '83 warres however these days more than one pint or a glass is enough for me on many levels
Orange Juice! Partial to an infrequent but interesting ale such as Loweswater Gold. Fullers Honeydew is rather pleasant too on a summer's evening with a fine steak.
When I fish the Irish festivals then my driver is to do well each day as I fish against 8 other anglers in what is called a section. If I win the section then I only have to drink water if I come second then it's one pint of Guiness ... Last time I went 2 years ago in two weeks I drunk 37 pints Each morning my stools were black as peat bogs I was seriously concerned about my health and it took a further month to clear my system It is poison
I used to go through that amount in 4 days. That's why I had to give it up. My liver was on the verge of total failure. Its the only drink that you can survive on on its own as its food and drink all in one.
You should always take stool colour equalisation tablets before a Guinness session, guaranteed to disguise even the most copious imbibations.
20 years ago I did a road trip with a mate around Ireland. At one point we stayed in a small family hotel in Connemara. Had a few pints of the black stuff before dinner, then fantastic dinner (local lamb, salmon etc, with a big heavy pud, gargantuan portions, really delicious). Last day we were there we were particularly thirsty and hungry (think we had attempted to play golf in a gale, the locals had run for cover, but by christ we had paid and hired clubs...) On the fourth or fifth pint after dinner there was a round of applause from behind the bar - barman/owner reckoned we had hit the record for pints consumed combined with cleaned plates for every course of the dinner cooked by his wife. Five pints in total is a big night for me nowadays, and I was skinny back then... Fullest I've ever been was when I was tricked into eating a plate of foie gras followed by a cassoulet by French colleagues in Paris. Delicious, but took me two months to digest.
I thought as such with my Bourbon mixes............... I use to call the Bourbon Burgers. A good wholesome meal in one.
Alcohol hates me. Pretty much stay well away, apart from 2 or 3 times a year when I go nuts on JD. Otherwise it's strong black coffee for me and water.
