Well technically you are ignoring evidence as i just told you about the Dr Rick Strassman DMT studies yet you obviouly dont care... you ignored that... If you had researched it i dont think you would be so uptight about alternate realms. "It's abnormally far fetched from a position of all human discovery to date." Lol, how so? i strongly disagree
I rarely remember any of my dreams past five minutes after waking up, but some of them are quite strange and some of them feature some very lovely ladies. I think that they are to do with the subconcious as they usually involve people and events close to us but the possibility of them being 'real' and taking place on an alternatve plane is pretty unlikely. Although, I would love to be proved wrong.
Translation of skapels message - "i cant handle somebody elses opinion so i label them a troll to make myself feel better" I can see that overall my views are unwelcomed and as a defference to the majority of the people on here i will refrain from making topics such as this in future, i appologise if anyone has been offended by this topic which was simply created to debate something of interest which we all experience in our lives.
Mainly because this is a FOOTBALL FORUM I'm fairly certain there are plenty of other sites/boards where you would get a better response and more reasoned arguement than here. And I struggle to take anyone seriously who gets up at lunchtime on a weekday, job? work? no?
As sung by Steve Bruce when coming runner up in Britain's Got Talent I Dreamed A Dream There was a time when men were kind When their voices were soft And their words inviting There was a time when love was blind And the world was a song And the song was exciting There was a time Then it all went wrong I dreamed a dream in time gone by When hope was high And life worth living I dreamed that love would never die I dreamed that God would be forgiving Then I was young and unafraid And dreams were made and used and wasted There was no ransom to be paid No song unsung, no wine untasted But the tigers come at night With their voices soft as thunder As they tear your hope apart As they turn your dream to shame He slept a summer by my side He filled my days with endless wonder He took my childhood in his stride But he was gone when autumn came And still I dream he'll come to me That we will live the years together But there are dreams that cannot be And there are storms we cannot weather I had a dream my life would be So different from this hell I'm living So different now from what it seemed Now life has killed the dream I dreamed.
Why's people having a go at him ? The thread title has 'off topic' so if you don't care then don't read or comment. The sexy poll and I-tunes exchange thread aren't football related.. On to your question though. I personlly think that dreams are just bits of pointless information your brain is scrambling together, most dreams are nonsense and have no meaning at all. it is a fascinating subject though, but the whole idea that our dreams are infact reality just seems too 'out there' and sounds like it would go well in a hollywood blockbuster. I don't mind these sort of threads whilst the the seasons finished. There is only so much football you can talk about, right ?
This thread raise's some very important issues and since its off-season, I dont see why people are having a go at him, maybe due too his history.. I study law but have been studying philosophy on the side for a while now... Its interesting how most the theories we have about life, where actually being mentioned 2,000 years ago!! Now to dreams, Alot of the east who are usually spot on about this sort of stuff.. believe theres different layers of life, that go on forever (we as human can understand this as we are doomed, so we believe everything else must be aswell).. For example you look up at the stars at night, you get a sense of awe/joy as its so vast and understandable,,, This is backed up by scientific evidence that if we kept zooming in on the earth you would get particles, most people believe particles to be solid, but science proves they are not, particles do not have boundaries, we just draw them like that so they are easy to understand, so there are no boundaries, and that we are all actually one, (which is somewhat of a paradox as we see things as separate)..... So life is infact an illusion created from our senses, a dog or ant will view life completely differently, by saying an illusion Im not saying it isnt real as it is, you prick your thing it hurts.. but its relative, somewhat no different to a dream!!! Most people think, thought is who they are, they identify with it, they are like my thoughts are depressing, so now im depressed, infact most people cant stop thinking for a second, it controls them, makes them who they are, when infact thought is merely a tool, which we can manipulate... Anywho sorry for going on abit but what im saying is that people sleep to rest there brain, when you sleep you no longer think, that is why you dont form memorys, dreams are just whatever thoughts are going on in your brain just before you switch off.. but alot of philosophers believe dreams connect us to the formless dimeson that exists.. the nothingness, what allows this universe to exist!!
I agree, it's a very interesting philosophical topic. Only thing I was having a pop at was that he considered DMT to be proof of a 'spiritual realm', if this was just poor wording on his part and he in fact was talking more along your lines then we have a different story. Otherwise, claiming that a scientific psychological study proves spiritualism is bound to raise more than a few eyebrows. I guessed he was taking the mick but considering his response I guess not.
lol burst out laughing. Everyone now thinks I'm either mad or love my jo... yeah, mad lol @original post Sorry, but I'm going with the cold "to keep your mind going" answer. Subconscious thoughts are thrown up merely as a result of the chemical released into the brain to cause this. Incidentally, some people are now taking this chemical for recreational purposes!!!! Actually quite a scary thought, people walking around dreaming, literally! Sounds dangerous to me lol
Just a tidbit from an essay I wrote on dreams. EDIT: Sorry for the terrible format, the forum seems to hate a copy paste from word.
