Have you never been? I had a great time in New York in September. Something I'm determined to do in my lifetime is travel throughout the country, hopefully visiting every state.

Like all things there is a well known and so very true addage........and that is......... You don't know what you've got until you lose it How true is that? If you think we are being governed with an iron fist....try going to some countries. China would be good place to start along with maybe Burma possibly Vietnam any of the middle eastern countries followed by Russia. These are the places where if you speak out just as you have a few minutes ago, you are likely to receive a knock on the door although in a lot of cases they don't bother to knock!!

but to each their own.

Turkey would have to be my favourite.

Side in Turkey is beautiful and a holiday is good value for money there, but Mexico will take some beating we were sat in a reasturant one day and i then fed wild crocs up to about 8 feet long with left over chicken and also worth a visit was going to a Mayan village and see how simple their life is and all they needed to survive.
We have been twice but try not to back to the same place. But saying that we are off to Tunsia for some sun and read books for the 6th time soon.

I'd better add Mexico to my long list then. Talking of good value for money, I stayed in an all-inclusive 5 star hotel in Turkey for a week for less than £500. And that included flights.

I have just had a week in Brittany for £150 per head including travel and accomodation.

Wonderful countryside and birdlife (if you are a birder) fabulous history, wondeful food and great towns.

Off to Turkey next.

Not telling you where as it is so unspoilt.

Without criticising all the other countries in the World, I know that I would not want to live somewhere else. I am at home here and, though I love to travel and recognise how beautiful many places are, this is my comfort zone.

To be fair, you live on the Isle of Wight, Fran. That's slightly different to being on the main land. Your quality of life has a slight, but distinctly different feel to it, than here just 10 or 15 miles away. The IOW has a cosiness to it, that suits some and puts off others. I really love the IOW, myself, and if it had just as much sunshine and warmth as the South of France, I'd be living there in a heartbeat. ;)

Incidentally, I'm down as crew for this year's Round the Island Boat Race on the 30th of this month. Look out for a 27ft sloop called Sooliman. Got to get some spinnaker practice in before then too.

No you don't mate. It's summer and its bloody freezing cold and the rain keeps chuking it down. Add to that the fact that the country is skint and being run into the ground by a bunch of Eton Toffs I think you are a lot better off where you are are.

Anyway if you are so proud to be British why are you living in Australia? I bet the Aussies love you rabbiting on about the Roayal family and how great England is. Take note of Thomas Keneally and push for your own head of State. Why should we pay for Queenie and then you borrow her from time to time for free.

Well dont feel too bad its been cats and dogs here for three days Sydney has a higher annual rainfall than London so when it rains here you sometimes need a crash helmet - tad warmer though its the equivalent of December 7 in seasonal terms and its 17 today.
I am here coz I met the high command (australian) when she was travelling in Wales decided that a trip down under would be the go and the rest his history but I havent become one of them I am a resident only and value my birthright - Hurrah !!!

But where Turkey is non EU you can also go self catering as it is cheap.....everywhere else we go we do all in but still find nice places to eat out when the mood takes us.
