This stop-motion animation of The Old Man and the Sea was made by Russian animator Aleksandr Petrov. The film uses 29,000 images that he and his son, Dimitri, painted on glass over two years. It’s no wonder it won the 2000 Academy Award for Animated Short Film.
got into this good one in a pub somewhere that somebody was lending out, name was to do with petals or something
I did American literature as part of both my degrees so my taste in books has been coloured by that and the fact that where once I read for enjoyment, now I analyse as I go, meaning that most of the books I find enjoyable are quite 'deep'. I couldn't guarantee that any I suggest, would have wide appeal but anything by John Steinbeck would be worth a go, especially The Grapes of Wrath.
I know of the Bandini Quartet but haven't read any of them. I like Cormac McCarthy and I think he's in that genre, not sure. Is he good?
Fante is my fav, read Wait Until Spring Bandini which is part of the quartet it's my fav book ever, beautiful heartbreaking stuff. McCarthy is very good at times The Border Trilogy is very good, as is Son Of Good.
I've just checked that Fante book out on kindle - it's £4.53. Think I will wait and see if it comes down any lower, might do if they spot me checking it out. looks excellent.
''Thanks, Mr! Wait Until Spring Bandini will be auto-delivered wirelessly to *****. You can go to your device to start reading.''
Will do, although I'm in the middle of a book atm so I will make you wait a while. I'm expecting his other books to drop into my recommended purchases for 99p now
Of the quartet Ask The Dust is regarded as the best book, I disagree though as it centres around just 2 characters and other characters are just part of the scenery whereas Wait Until Spring centres around a family and each member is written with such life. Worth going through them all though.
@johnsonsbaby His last book Dreams of Bunker Hill was written while he was wheelchair bound and blind, he dictated the whole thing and his wife typed it. The guy just had a whole book sat there in his head.
