260,000+ confirmed new cases in Spain. It's going to ruin a lot of peoples holiday plans

I am supposed to be visiting mates a week tomorrow for a drinking session and a curry, but I'm slightly apprehensive tbh

Aside from shopping and a couple of family visits once restrictions were lifted, I've largely been in quarantine with my Wife since March anyway !

So it's not wrong just interesting.
    You're not being pedantic.
    And your eating yourself up.

    Seems you're a bit undecided.
For me there's no confusion and the terrible scenes in our hospitals and Care Homes are still very fresh in my mind.

It's better to be safe than sorry.

Personally I don't understand why anyone would even bother going abroad with what's currently happening but that's just me, seems pointless

Second spike is coming, and I don’t think we are prepared for it.
Scared of the multi national companies saying we’ve got to keep working, so work from home if you can. So basically they say that to employees and x amount have to go into work.
Then scared of pubs and retail saying what about us? OK we trust the great British public (after photos of Bournemouth beach, and wait for tomorrow’s) so we will open them up if you behave.
And all of this is without a cure, vaccine etc.

    Ok I'll be more direct:
Its not safe - ANYWHERE. If you think that wandering around in post-lockdown England is safer than anywhere else then I'm afraid that there is no hope even continuing the debate because you've made up your mind and you'll stick to it.
Our country has more cases than Spain - in fact, more than any country in Europe. Google it.
Our Government blacklisted the whole of Spain - even the Balearics - because of a severe outbreak in and around the Barcelona region - but its the same as our own domestic outbreaks in Blackburn, Leicester and Oldham. It's possible to go to Spain and NOT go anywhere near Barcelona - just as it is possible to go to the UK and NOT visit those English cities I mentioned earlier.

Basically, nobody should leave their house, because going to the pub or hairdresser - or supermarket over here is just as dangerous as in Spain - or anywhere else on the continent.

I expect most of you haven't bought holidays this year because of Coronavirus - well, very sensible and good for you. Unfortunately I bought mine on 9th October 2019 when nobody had even heard of Covid. If I cancel then I will lose £2k - not the most important thing here I agree, but not insignificant to write off either.
I made enquiries yesterday and my travel insurance IS STILL valid - because of the date I booked my trip.
When we come back, my wife and I will self-isolate according to the requirements. I'm fortunate in that my wife is retired and I am working from home, so the 2 week quarantine won't hurt us and we absolutely will abide by it.
I'm going - unless my flights are cancelled (or banned) in which case I won't have a choice.so I HAVE made a decision, but it wasn't an easy one and to be honest I don't care who believes me on that or who doesn't.

We booked ours (cruise) in October 2018 for the end of March 2020 and it was of course cancelled. We could have had a refund but we've re-booked the same cruise for April 2021. Our flights to Newcastle were of course also cancelled and we then had to cancel hotel bookings, taxis (pre paid and standard reservations), Aspire Lounge reservations at Bristol and Newcastle Airports and all manner of other pains. We got everything back after 49 attempts to contact Easy Jet, and just as well as the corporate Travel Insurance that I get slightly discounted from my employers didn't want to know !
We lost about £10 on the pre-paid Taxi bookings but overall it could have been much worse.

'If you think that wandering around in post-lockdown England is safer than anywhere else then I'm afraid that there is no hope even continuing the debate because you've made up your mind and you'll stick to it.'

I don't think it's 'safer here than anywhere else'. What has that got to do with regard to stopping the spread of this virus from elsewhere.

'Our country has more cases than Spain - in fact, more than any country in Europe. Google it.'

I know that - You just don't get it.

'Basically, nobody should leave their house'

    Now you're just being silly.

'I expect most of you haven't bought holidays this year'

I booked 2 holidays last September and 3 breaks during April, May and June.
Yes, I was pissed off but breaks/holidays are one thing - Covid 19 is different gravy.

The lockdown must really be getting to you bcfcred especially as I hadn't even posted. Anyway the report from across the pond carries mixed messages and the main reason we are seeing a new rise in B.C. is solely down to drunken 20-25 year olds not getting the message or not giving a rat's ass.

I heard something about the part of the brain that controls decision making based on consequences doesn't develop until your late twenties and that is why young people don't get the message. Ah well it could be worse living in the Excited States where no-one has a clue.

    P.S. Non apology accepted.<doh>

pretty much the same here … other than almost daily walks and past 3 weeks [ tonight 4th ] meeting up with my Thursday night mates for a walk just done shopping about once a fortnight had grand kids around maybe weekly last twice in house.. what a lot f peeps do not realise is insurance co's are wised up so insurance will be voided with no redress... peeps coming back can expect hand outs! so a 2 week holiday is actually 4 weeks! it is this family grouping kids + adults to 45 -50 that are in the new swathe of infected ….has the virus mutated [ early comments were it might well do! now 20 years old +could be in the next 40k who actually die! [ over 39k of over 65's have! ]

Good for you R&W, I hope you have a great time. I got back from 18 days in Spain on Sunday, dont regret it for one minute. My 14 day quarantine is no trouble. I work from home and have no desire to go to a pub or restaurant here in the UK, as I didn't whilst I was in Spain. The way I see it is there is risk everywhere and I will be selective with the risks I take. Holidaying in Spain was one I was prepared to take. Haven't left the house for work since 12th March.

Isn't it the family groups with BAME backgrounds where the new spike of infections are increasing.

Living on a relatively small island makes things somewhat more controllable and so we have seen very few cases out here. Our provincial health officer has this situation relatively under control and our recent spike on the mainland has been primarily in the food growing industry. Currently we have been advised not to travel without good reason and inter-provincial travel is not recommended and probably won't be until later this year. Ann and I lost about $15000 due to our cruise being cancelled the day before departure from Singapore and we are still fighting to get monetary returns rather than credit vouchers for future use and that includes Costa Cruises, Air France and Westjet. Our travel insurance is running for the hills and are saying that if we get credit from the listed companies then that invalidates any claim we have on insurance.

Travelling outside any country will probably take a lot longer than we can imagine right now and the future options may not suit our needs. Stay safe one and all and remember all problems are an opportunity to advance positive changes.

it is latest is whole of "NORTH MANCHESTER" Blackburn /Oldham / etc is going to be or is in restricted lockdown as has been said the protests are a part of it? … it brought on a false sense of security … some without face masks or with but generally in close proximity and a delay in cases coming forward means they have "thought it is all over..but it isn't now" STAPLETON ROAD know where near as densely populated as the BAME areas up there was like a normal Saturdayday of a year ago in mid week ….
On our walk last night swapped a few stories on Covid ...the best had to be from the 24th my friend [ his wife a covid nurse and he both had it in June ] in Tesco's he was wearing a mask [ day before becomes mandatory ] and a bloke comes up to him and says , "excuse me mate but you don't have to wear a mask until tomorrow" he replied " well you must be pretty dim, Covid isn't turning up tomorrow, its f...….. been here 3 months or more already, so f off and get out of my space ….

Just watching Hancock being interviewed by the awful and sarcastic Naga Munchetty.
Wish he'd just come out and say we're having to shut down 4million people in the North of England because of Eid celebrations.
    Political correctness gone mad.
