Always struck me as odd that New Mexico is so staunchly Democrat, and they've gone that way again.

Heard it explained that, whereas Arizona/Texas and the like have had a fairly tumultuous relationship with their Latino population as it rises, New Mexico's demographics have been fairly settled...it's no smaller, but it's been there for a very long time.

Ah okay, thanks for that little bit of knowledge.

Gotta get some sleep now. I hope to wake up to amusing Facebook statuses like "what's an obama and why is everyone talking about it?", just like 4 years ago.

Glad I decided to check one last time. Get in Obama!

Right, goodnight lads.

Obama projected to take Ohio, so game over.

As for New Mexico, Schad has it right. New Mexico has a population of Latinos and also Native Americans. Texas and Arizona are both quite conservative so NM is where those voting factions end up. I would also describe New Mexico as somewhat of a hippy state. They are not really "big government" in the abstract, but they see conservatives as being the kind of government that screws them over. That is why you have someone fiscally conservative and very small government but somewhat socially liberal like Gary Johnson being governor of the state.

As an addendum, that makes New Mexico one of only three 'outlier states'...states that frequently go for one party while all of the surrounding states go the other. New Hampshire -- surrounded by blue states, sometimes breaks to the GOP -- is another, and Florida -- which is surrounded by the reddest of the red, but has a substantial Latino population -- is the third. Everywhere else in the United States, you have contiguous regions of red and blue. Demography is destiny.

Screw it, I'm finally going to call it a night. Doubt we'll see Obama for an hour yet! Good night to any last stragglers.

Obama cannot speak until Romney concedes, and Romney's being a bit of a dick at the moment; his campaign is denying that it's over despite the fact that there are several routes by which Obama could win, and he's pretty well won them all.

I'm okay with this. Why should Romney have to concede? It looks bad, but it's close you never know. And even if he knows he's lost don't really see the point in him making a fake speech. And if Obama wants to wait until Romney makes his fake speech before in turn issuing his fake speech, that's his bad. The whole thing is a bit of a farce, really.
