I would not recommend water cooling at this stage, nor spending £60 on a cooler. If you want an aftermarket cooler get the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus

The one he has linked is a sealed unit though Calaye, he does not need to do anything other than fit it. Yes ofcourse there is always a chance it might crack and leak so its important to make the right decision

What about the downside of it costing £60? I highly doubt he'll be that seriously into overclocking to see the benefits, better to start cheap then upgrade as/if necessary. Unless money is no object of course.

Intel 2500k does have the Turbo speed boost, i have mine set at 4.5ghz so even if he isn't into overclocking a decent cooler would be advised.

TBH last time I looked it wasn't really worth building one from scratch, what with some of the bare bones systems available currently.

Just get a bare bones, the bits you need to vamp it up and a cracked or enterprise version of windows.

How are you getting on? have you already ordered anything?

PM me if you like and I'll give you hand. One off though, not doing it for everyone. Lord knows I do enough private work in the evenings lol

Free anti virus/spyware software is fine, as long as its decent of course.

I normally AVG for Anti virus, and ZoneAlarm for FW, cant remember whatI used for spyware.

I prob won't focus on overclocking till I get SLi or something.

It's normally ALWAYS worth building from scratch. Can save a fair bit of money because there is no labour charge. Depends on his knowledge though, some people like to have it done for them so theres no trouble.

You can get a whole host of emulators, but realistically yeah, you need windows for proper compatibility.

Not nocking Ubuntu though, good OS.

Yea nothing wrong with it, takes some getting used to though. Also i would never pay for a copy of Windows, too overpriced and iv'e never had any problems with my "Free" copy.

Will be ordering parts this week or next. Checked some videos doesn't look too difficult to build a PC, I'll just have to remember to discharge myself frequently on the case or something. It's basically the build Syl Marveau made on page 2. Just rebumped this thread as I felt like I needed a cooler for the CPU.

How would I get a free windows on a newly built PC?

Use your old one to download it?

If you need some help building i can help you, main thing to remember is if it doesn't go in dont force it. (in before Bramble joke)

Yep. Can be a lot of trouble. I've even had other IT "pros" call me up cause they've got themselves in a muddle. (buying parts with no Windows drivers etc, end up scouring for generic drivers that cause bugs when playing games etc.)

Barebones basically is from scratch, just saves sorting out your case, board, CPU and power supply. The main saving is usually in not having to pay for the OS. It depends how much time you wish to spend on it really.

In fairness I haven't looked at it for a few months. I don't even offer the service anymore. (plus I may be getting slightly lazy :) )

If you have a DVD burner all you need to do is download the image and burn it to disk.

Could do that was gonna take my DVD drive off my old PC, not something I really use but something I can keep. But thanks again guys :) hopefully have it built next week or week after when I get parts. Prices have went up a bit, but I think thats due to the lack of stock.

Will save me like £117 to, maybe upgrade to an i7?

Look forward to troubleshooting with you ;)

haha

As for Windows, google the word "Torrent" and check the other users comments, but never trust them either lol

Microsoft and the companies that make computer parts are different entities, both want profit.

You won't have MS Word, Excel et al either, so will need to download that as well.

If it's for gaming don't bother. Only difference is the i7 has HyperThreading, which i believe no or next to none games use it. If you do video editing/rendering & Audio etc then yes aslong as the applications you are using support it.

Also its home time will response when i get home from work

Mate go to a shop in gateshead called "Computer Orbit", they build your comp from scratch and you can choose everything that goes into your computer.

Mine took 1 week to make, but it was worth the wait.

1000GB ram, an amazing graphics card, 22 inch 1080p computer screen (it's ****ing massive), along with an excellent video card that makes videos look awesome.

3.2 GHZ processor. A good fan to keep it cool. It can play every game that's coming out currently.

Overall it was £679, but i bought it in a Christmas period where 100 quid was knocked off the price. So i suggest going to down for a visit to their shop, and they'll literally answer all your questions and offer you full support.

You can buy already built computers, or they give you a massive list of different things, and you can choose what goes in.

You can choose the motherboard, RAM, the processor, everything!

Their website.

1000gb ram are you taking the piss?

They are split into parts, normally because the file host only allows a certain size. And also to avoid file corruption when downloading. Yes, if you have a new pc then you will need to have it on a disk, or a USB stick if you have one that is 8gb.

They talking about something called a loader, is it same thing you are talking about? I downloaded the 7 64 bit iso it's 3gb atm.

Loader is probably the crack, it is used to fake Windows into thinking its acticvated. Yes, good job on downloading the 64bit version too, the 32bit only supports so much RAM.
