Thinking of canceling my Sky which is costing me over £60 a month and wondered if anyone here uses BT Vision, I know you can now add skysports to it for a fee so no problems there also how about films, can you record them to a dvd or are they coded.

no idea John but I would imagine they're coded.

I got rid of Sky a while back too...way too many channels of **** to choose from.
Freeview is adequate for her dire reality TV crap, countless make-over and cookery shows and never-ending soap operas. <grr>

I use the Sky-Go monthly ticket for all the Sports channels <ok>
 
I'm with Virgin, decent package at a reasonable price, manage to usually find a stream to watch Sporting events that I want to see............and if the worse comes to the worse......there is always the pub ;)

With regard to films.......I can usually get them on the computer.........stream them down to my WII and then video them <ok> Then if you really want you can transfer videos to dvd.
 
I would go to sky and ask to cancel because you can't afford it, they will offer you about a 20% discount normally, the same if you are with virgin media, I do it all the time, don't think I have ever paid the full price for their package.

And I like Sky TV by the way, people slag it off etc, but it's got loads of documentary programmes that I enjoy, and lots of stuff for the kids, plus their sports package on there is second to none, it's my one thing I indulge in as I don't smoke, don't drink (pub on home games excluded) and don't collect stamps or anything lol

BT Vision is crap by the way, my sister had it, and it's expensive for what you get, you also need to be near the telephone exchange for it to work properly, virgin media is ok but again it's expensive if you add everything together.

Agree John - Sky has become very expensive. I pay the same £62 odd for Sky World HD package. To be fair, you get the bloody Jewson lot for that, but it does make you cringe when you realise you're spending around £750 a year to watch the tele - quite apart from the 145 quid for the licence. <doh>

BT Vision looks quite cheap at first glance, but you can soon rack it up with the options and it still doesn't come anywhere close to Sky.

Like Jager intimates, you prioritise with your lifestyle. If you like going out a lot socialising (or even train spotting like Jager <laugh>), perhaps you don't need the box that much and the cheaper options will suffice.

I don't watch the tele that much to be honest, but I'm prepared to maximise my options when I do.

yea, i dont want to be seen to be having my tongue firmly welded to murdochs arse but i think i get phone, unlimited internet and sky sports for about £60, it seems alot but sky + is awesome, i dont know what i'd do without it, each extra channels package i get is only £1 a month extra, and at the time of purchasing (about 2 years ago now) the rivals werent that much cheaper, but had way less channels, no sky plus and as jager says, if you put the packages side by side they were actually quite expensive for what you get <ok>

i like my football, and its the only place to get wales internationals, as well as all the champions league games <ok>
 
Well, at the risk of boring you,
Some time ago when all was well in our household we invested in a top of the range Pioneer Plasma, at the same time we also spent close to £300 on better cabling and a device to 'clean' the electricity supply, these worked so well that when the chap from Sky did the install there was no difference in picture quality from non hd channel to hd channels.
Fast forward a few years and now the only income we have comes from my wife, I have been in and out of hospital for the last 2 years, I have had my left hip replaced once and my right hip replaced three times due to complications not counting the number of times I've been back to the theatre to put right several hip dislocations, if you've ever suffered from a hip dislocation you'll know just how painful it is, currently waiting to go in again for a small shoulder op to remove a small piece of bone ans expect to have further operations next year on both knees so as you can imagine funds are getting very tight, on top of all this I've just received notification that they stopping my DLA payment based on an interview with a nurse 2 years ago that I took to a legal tribunal and got it thrown out, yet they are still using it to base the award, phoning them left me wanting to kill someone, I got absolutely nowhere, I've worked for over 40 years and never been out of work or claimed for anything in all that time, the chap I spoke to was the most ignorant person ever, all he kept saying was 'what do you want me to do' FFS how the hell do I know, perhaps it's my fault for being able to speak english, sorry not a racist never have been, grew up in Splott ffs.
So you can see why I'm looking to get the best I can for the cheapest price which is why I was looking at BT vision as our phone and internet is already via them and they have some good deals at present can even include skysports for a fee lol

Sorry to hear of you're health problems mate, the government are making it harder to get DLA payments and as usual it's the ones in most need that bare the brunt. If you know how to beat the system you get everything. My advice would be to have a word with your local CAB. Good luck mate.
