Like I said, this is a football forum. Just like normal people would not go to a political meeting to discuss football.

I take it from your reply that in your opinion I have no right to hold this view because it does not coincide with yours.

No I never said that, you have every right to your opinion. I merely pointed out that thousands died in ww2 in the fight against fascism. Fascism that is/was a totalitarian regime that 'disposed of' anyone who spoke out against its ideology and leaders. Paradoxically, the fight against fascism has allowed you to express your right for people to be allowed to view their support fascism.

Di Canio has stated that many of his past comments have been cherry picked and taken out of context regarding this, or are you choosing to ignore what is actually being said?

How am I a disgrace to the club you ****ing muppet for standing up for what I believe in on the evidence I had read! And I'm certainly not jumping on or off any band wagon! I still believe there is no place for fascism in football or anywhere and if Di Canio shows any of his old tendencies while here I'll be the first calling for his head. As for now he's said enough to give him the benefit of the doubt!

I think what he actually said was that the Italian fascist Mussolini was misunderstood and his intentions were basically for the good of Italy. However, he did go on to say that his methods were all all wrong, which seems to be getting missed by the mass media..

Its like a person agreeing with some of the BNP's more moderate policies! It doesnt make that person a racist or a BNP voter!

Like Froggy I'm uncomfortable with the appointment, but for FFS if this was a non-story in 1996 when PDC joined Celtic, why the **** is it being brought up now, 17 years later?

I agree that there's more to life than football and that is the point being a fascist is bigger than the club

He is there to manage the football club, not run the city of Sunderland based on whatever his political views are. He is not a political animal, and like most footballers isn't best placed to talk politics. At worst the bloke is guilty of making some inappropriate comments on subjects he is not particularly interested in or paid to be knowledgable about.

It is good chip paper and no more. As a player he was a bit of a bell end. He has continued to be as a manager. This along with his daft comments on subjects he is not well placed to discuss, makes him a nice target for the press. However he has done very well as a manager.

SAF is a complete arsehole. He's a good manager. Glenn Hoddle held some ropey religious views. He is a good manager. Luis Suarez is a despicable little twat. Fantastic footballer who I'd happily have in black and white. I wouldn't be worrying about someones public image so much. Its results/perfomance that matter. When did football managers and players start getting held up to such high standards?

I reckon he'll do well and provide you with something watchable at long last. I do think it'll eventually end in tears because he is so volatile. But the maximum for any Sunderland or Newcastle fan to worry about at present is the next 7 games.

Thanks for that patronising ****e mate, in reply to a post where I did everything to not stand on people's toes.

A media **** storm has hit our Club in recent days and we're discussing it, er, on a Discussion Board. Without having a go at fellow posters (well most of us anyway).

I'm afraid it does "affect my life", 'cos I spend far too much time reading these boards, feeling pissed off after only 3 points against Swansea/Reading/West Brom/Fulham/QPR/Norwich, and ****ting myself about relegation. I would guess you feel the same.

Maybe I should grow up and not let SAFC "affect my life", but, hey, I'm not going to.

If you are going to give us history lessons my little pet skunk, get your facts right.

After World War 1, we so crippled Germany economically, that their people grasped at anything to move their **** lives forward. Perfect breeding ground for someone like Hitler to rally them behind him with promises of bringing back the good times. Same happened in Italy.
The beginning of the second World War wasn't about politics, it was about land and resources same as always.
If it was about Fascism or Nazism we could have stamped on them before they built up to positions of strength.
We could and SHOULD have done something when Hitler went into the Sudetenland as we had a pact with Czechoslovakia.
But us and the French said **** them, to appease Hitler, doesn't sound like a fight against fascism yet does it?
He signed an agreement with COMMUNIST Russia.
We at that time were more worried about COMMUNISTS.
Then when he invaded Poland another country we had a pact with us and the French realised he wasn't going to stop any time soon and declared WAR.

Guess what? The Yanks had no intention of helping us or defeating Fascism they left us to struggle on on our own.
Hitler was admired by the American elite.
They only got interested when the bankers realised if the Germans won all the Lease Lend money would disappear.

Not a lot of ideology in this yet is there?

Wars are fought over land and resources, not because of someone's politics.

Well said that man. religion and politics are always the convenient excuse masking the real motives of power and greed.

and as for simply quoting what journos have conveniently cherry picked about the bloke, tis even more pathetic. if you can't be arsed to give someone the benefit of the doubt before considering the facts (rather than lazy citations), shame on you.
