I'll be sad if it's the case that Lambert destroys such a promising career by taking Villa down or getting the sack especially after he had money to spend there. But he evidently wasn't happy at Norwich so it is best for both parties that he moved on. But I certainly do have this little smug feeling inside me.
all i wanted when lambert left us, was him to one day, if even just for a short time, to regret his decision and realise that he really had something very special here, something that doesn't come along in football too often, and something he could really have built on. hopefully that moment of realisation has, or is soon to arrive.
not sure the villa fans would accept it, but i feel relegation could be the best thing to happen to villa for a while. they've got a young, promising team and would still get big crowds - i reckon they'd storm the championship with that team and lambert in charge and come back bigger and better than before. they've been so used to losing games over the past five years. regaining the winning habit in the league below could be the spark which gets them firing again. of course, were they to go down, lambert would get the boot - so it won't work anyway - but there are similarities between us going to league one and them now.
If they got relegated PL wouldn't be I'm charge Supers - guarantee it. Didn't realise PL spent 23million in the summer. Quite a figure IMO.
absolutely he'd get the boot. but do you think it might be beneficial for villa to go down? i can only see them continuing to tread water for the foreseeable future
Depends if Lerner is interested. He could easily turn around and invest huge sums where it wouldn't be necessary to drop a division but if things continue as they currently are I think relegation could be a beneficial kick up the arse. I'd hate for Norwich to have an owner with such little interest in the club and don't understand it from an owners point of view. Now he has sold off all the prized assets..Young, Downing (lol) etc, the club surely can't be making him much money so why not sell to someone willing to invest or to a supporters trust etc?
I think thats a bit harsh on Lerner, they sold those players at seriously inflated prices of which there are not many who would turn down. Lerner had backed O'Neill until he realised he wasn't going to get his money back with European qualification etc. I actually think Lerner is one of the better owners, he just seemed naive to the difficulty of Champions League football.
Perhaps so carrabuh but now he has lost interest and not willing to invest surely he should look to sell? Hardly a profitable business..football ownership and its not as though he supports Villa.
I'm just making the point comparable. Why should Lerner be criticised for getting monies previously invested back when our own owner is doing the same.
I realise you're looking at it from a different angle but I don't think they compare. Delia has saved Norwich with a sizable, interest-free loan which I am confident her financial advisors would have had kittens over had she listened to them. She's said publicly she'll sell up if the right owner comes along and that for me speaks volumes. She's passionate about the club, wants what's best for us and I'd rather have that than an extra couple of zeros on the balance sheet. Not sure Lerner (or many others) has the same priority.
I don't think she'd sell, but thats a different argument. They are both looking to run their clubs within there means, just because Lerner is richer and American I don't think he should be judged differently. The Glaziers on the other hand.............
^ this^ is a truly magnificent statement and long may this type of mentality and belief run through the club Happy new year to every single contributor to this forum - and many more
Likewise Happy new year to you all. It's already a sunny 2013 new years day here. What did those pesky Mayans know eh?
Carra I did say Lerner doesnt support Villa so would lack passion for the club so comparing him to Delian isn't a valid argument. Happy new year all
Good to hear that the Georgian calandar hasn't signalled the end of the world like the Mayan calandar was supposed to do.
How do you know Lerner is not passionate about Villa? Are you seriously suggesting that Lerner doesn't now support Villa even though he's the owner. I don't think you can label him as having no passion for them, particularly as he has invested alot in the past. Lerner and Delia are both doing the same thing, trying to get there money back which is fair enough. My argument is that doesn't make either a bad owner and you just label one as a pasionate supporter (particularly if the rumours of her being a former Town supporter are true) and the other not, just because he's rich and American when you have no idea what he's really like. I'm saying there is no evidence with what Lerner has done so far to suggest he doesn't care about Villa, he's stuck by managers and backed them financially when possible. If for example I bought Tranmere then they would become my No1 team and No1 priority and Norwich would be No2 team. I can't think of many things more exhilarating or generating passion (other than Mrs Carrabuh of course) than owning a football club.
