I enjoyed both Chaka Khan and Sade, although the latter in small doses, as it all becomes a bit repetitive.
There was some great mainstream pop, though. ABC, Tears For Fears, Spandau Ballet, etc. And, of course, there were plenty of great artists that did a lot of their best work in the 80s, such as Bowie, Queen, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, ZZ Top, etc.
If you want cheesy obscure 80's synth pop, then this is the creme de brulee The headz might spot the bassline for a later classic hip hop tune.
I was given one of her albums, I can't remember which one. But as I said previously, it's ok in small doses. I just found listening to all her songs consecutively, eventually all just blends into one, so once you've heard one song, you've pretty much heard them all. Over exaggerated, although I tend to like a lot of artists that include a sax. I should really learn the sax, but probably never will.
I know it's not strictly pop, but the Electro pop scene of the early 80's set the scene for the whole hip hop game to flourish
