Use incentives. Someone is seeing the idiots throwing the coins.

Threaten to make the hosting team play a game behind closed doors every time a coin is thrown on the pitch with no-one arrested.

Clubs could respond with a £500 reward for dobbing in anyone near you who throws a coin. Text the seat number and time after the game to a central number so the club/police can check the CCTV evidence.

Happy club - Pay out a little in rewards rather than lose a match revenue

Happy spectators - See someone near you throw a coin and it's like a small anonymous lottery win...

Happy players - coin throwing would die down.

Happy Karma - thrower is banned for life.

Throwing coins on to the field has been going on for years.......some of the older fans on here will remember it used to be encouraged when the albion band walked around the pitch playing at half time at the Dell!!! Not that we could afford alot then but we used to oblige.
This is more serious though as someone else said you just cannot throw a coin without someone else knowing. However though I cannot understand how someone could throw it hard enough to cut him unless of course the coin was pre-prepared, I E a ground down edge? Mind you I still don't see how he could have thrown it hard enough to cut unless he used a small sling shot.

I think if nets go up, certain people will throw more stuff against the net; so they wont be a temporary measure, they could be up for good. But is waiting to see whether the issue goes away after this type of debate, possibly paradoxically waiting till somebody is blinded??

I think if you threw a coin from the top at St Mary's (and the back is the most likely area) it'd have some pace on it by the time it hit pitch level. Particularly one of the coins that's heavy in relation to its area, like a £1 coin.

On Sky, someone has been showing off the fine mesh needed to protect players from things being thrown. Essential when you consider how many players are killed and wounded seriously every year by fans. Have they ever seen monkeys at the zoo rattling cages...could make behaviour worse. Punish the guilty only.

Reminds me of that great video of Saints fan shaking barriers to try and get at Pompey fans. The barrier fell down, so as good as gold the Saints fans picked it up and carried on rattling it.
