I can't believe people are jumping on the Oasis bandwagon now. For 20 years they've been a well kept secret amongst the true aficionados. Mayyybeeeeeeeeee And after allllllllllllllllll Go on Liam, ****ing 'ave it!!!
Average band whose stock is raised by having been media darlings. Selling records has never been a yardstick for how good bands are. Some multimillion sellers were the best ever; some who didn't have commercial success were great too. Green Day are hailed as champions of punk/pop punk. I could name you 200 better bands without drawing breath, who never got any MTV airplay. Oasis fall into this category - run of the mill, OK, not very original, no great talent, but championed by people who don't know music exists outside the charts.
I watched the supersonic documentary earlier, It was superb, I'd recommend people on here to watch it, You won't regret it.
There are some artists, and some songs, which, when you are driving home from work and they come on the radio, can change your whole day. Oasis have a handful of songs which can do that, therefore they have stood the test of time and deserve their place in the history of rock n roll. Rock n Roll Star btw, is the perfect track to hear when bowling down the street with a wallet full of cash and a head full of bugle - not that I do that anymore.
