You don't have to sign in every 24 hours, just for the initial set up of the console. And kinect is still mandatory for some reason.
Still....****ing Kinect - the main reason I wouldn't want this console! What a waste of time that ****e is.
Last week at E3, the excitement, creativity and future of our industry was on display for a global audience. For us, the future comes in the form of Xbox One, a system designed to be the best place to play games this year and for many years to come. As is our heritage with Xbox, we designed a system that could take full advantage of advances in technology in order to deliver a breakthrough in game play and entertainment. We imagined a new set of benefits such as easier roaming, family sharing, and new ways to try and buy games. We believe in the benefits of a connected, digital future. Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One. You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you. Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world. So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means: •An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360. •Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360. In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions. These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray. We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds. Thank you again for your candid feedback. Our team remains committed to listening, taking feedback and delivering a great product for you later this year.
the PS4 is still a more powerful console for less money. If the TV features work well over here and you like Kinect then get the Xbox. If you want a games console primarily that can also do some video stuff then get the PS4.
Every consoles target market is casual gamers. PC always has and always will be the platform for "hardcore" gamers, just because it really is that much better. But you need the money to set it up and keep upgrading it ever couple of years to keep in touch with new releases. That's the downside to it.
The casual gamer who doesn't play competitive/read forums/play online. I.e. parents for kids, people who don't really research the consoles.
I didn't know it was the Xbox 180, thought it was just Xbox One. Trending all over twitter about the reports of them backtracking
I just saw the announcement that Lewis posted, this is quite encouraging really, all they need to do now is make the Kinect not a mandatory part of the console then I will stay with XBOX, I can't see them going that far though

See xbox with the changes looks a far better prospect already, and I was already gonna get that over a ps4 anyway
Don't be surprised if in a couple of years Microsoft start bringing the required online back, they said last night they still believe digital is the future. Consumer backlash was huge so they had to act quickly to shift consoles. Once they have sold a few million they're free to bring in all the original policies and they'd have millions locked into using their system.
I know it's also the mods aspect and stuff, but it still seems too much bother to me going to the effort of building a powerful enough PC for it to work properly on for what isn't much of a difference really. 'Just graphics' was a bit of an over-simplification by me, but the difference isn't that great. I sometimes think I'd like to get into PC gaming, then I remember it'd cost me a **** load and I don't need to. Online passes piss me off. Agree with this. I played the new Tomb Raider recently and it's just ace. I don't have the fancy sound system but you genuinely feel scared playing it. Never had one when they were new but I got a Dreamcast about a year ago and it's ridiculously good fun. Me and my mate spent stupid numbers of hours playing Virtua Tennis into the night. I don't mind Kinect being mandatory as long as it's not spying on you. Don't see it as mandatory but as free. The thing that really pisses me off is the lack of backward compatibility. WHY?! Why do so many consoles not support backward compatibility? It's so stupid, loads of people like their old games and want to be able to play them for as long as they want. I'm probably going to stick with 360 for a while and see what other people think of their new consoles once they come out before buying one. If you look at the 360 and how ****e it was originally before they eventually got it all sorted out, I don't want to waste money again!
Unlucky, absolutely terrible game. The fighting is so simple it's painful. "Ooh but there are like a million and one side missions, there's so much to do!" But every side mission is basically.. "Go in to this cave, kill everyone in it, get the treasure at the end, leave." "Oh wow, another side mission! Wonder what they'll ask me to do here..." "Go in to this cave, kill everyone in it, get the treasure at the end, leave." Repeat...
Kinect essentially is spying on you if you have it switched on. Why would you want something that measures your heart-rate and sends the information off to a corporation, or how many people you have in your room? Think of the implications and it's wrong. Interesting that about Tomb Raider, nearly picked that up myself as its 15 quid Tescos- will give it a go
I thought I was the only one who thought that! I just had a quick nosy through this thread, as I might be tempted by a new console when it comes out, but have no idea which one really. I used to have an Xbox 360, but after about 3 red rings of death I just gave up, and got a PS3. I've never had any problems with PSN (apart from the obvious hacking ), works fine for me. Plus you don't have to pay extra for it I have just started playing The Last Of Us, it says I'm about 30% complete but it feels like I've barely started!? Is it a short game!? Throwing my favourite PS3 game out there, and that's Heavy Rain. Totally different to anything else, not only did I enjoy playing it, I've sat and watched at least 4 other mates play it through, just to see how their game turns out. If you've never played it, I would definitely recommend!
