Fair enough. Still politics. It is true to say it is unusual for threads to go off topic <ok>

    Fair enough!

To save more money in the next parliament I would expect the Government to abolish the Department for Climate Change, the Department for Business and Innovation and the Department for Culture, Media And Sport. This would save a few billion and cut down the size of the State which is so badly needed. These functions can all be done under existing departments with smaller budgets. We should also be seriously looking to reduce the £12Billion a year we give in foreign aid.

Personally I don't care who provides the services as a consumer of them so long as they are efficient and in the case of the NHS free at the point of need. I think we all get so up tight in this country about Private Vs Public Sector when there should be a perfectly good way of both working together. No government of any political colour is suggesting the wholesale privatisation of the NHS and it is just scare mongering from the Labour Party to suggest that this is the case!

That is fair enough. There is no way the government can provide everything whoever they are. As you say it is important that we maintain free healthcare, education, emergency services etc. While no one is suggesting wholesale privatisation of the NHS I certainly understand the concerns. many of the short term, easier operations and practices are being handed out to private entities. This leaving the long term care to the traditional NHS service. It can appear that the private sector is allowed to pick the easy more profitable options,

I expect UKIP to go for the abandonment of the Foreign Aid budget.

Could we not trim the nhs costs by having a commonsense commity? As an example, a child comes in with a broken ankle, he gets treated, no problem! A vacuous ho says she is depressed and needs a new pair of norks, on ya bike love! Hey presto, the commity has saved the tax payer £6000 worth of surgery!
    Bah!

I doubt that scenario has occurred, despite what the Daily Mail says.

    An efficient, yet free service.

That sounds perfect for a private investment. People need to face facts the NHS isn't a privately run business with plenty of money per head behind it. All the experiences I've had with 3 kids is that it has been fine, not brilliant but perfectly adequate.

I think people need to realise that if you want top service then you have to pay for it and not try moulding the NHS into something it can't be.

Drunks who get themselves injured should have to pay.

Troublemakers giving the ambulancemen and doctors trouble should be given fines in the thousands.

Obese people should be denied care (caused by obesity) until they lose weight. If they cannot and die then tough, their choice.

Smokers should be put behind people who don't smoke.

Everybody knows the implications of bad eating, drinking and smoking.

I consider this to make a fair society so that those who do the right things are given preferential treatment over those who don't. It might clean us all up a little bit more if the responsibility was put back on us to look after ourselves.

Interesting you say obese people should be denied treatment. There's an increasing body of evidence that obesity is caused also by genetics or even viral infections not just overeating/under-exercising. And you say denied care; you mean all care? If an obese person gets stabbed in the street they should be left to bleed to death? Or did you mean care pertaining to any treatment they require BECAUSE of obesity? Because if so this is the start of a slippery slope; you would need to be able to PROVE that obesity was the cause of this person's ailment, which I can assure you, is nearly impossible!

No, I said care needed because of obesity. I'd say any ailment where they would have more chance of surviving if they lost their weight would constitute a worthy case for denial until they lost weight. I am personally sick and tired of sob stories about people saying they can't lose weight, they can, it is very simple, there is nothing complicated about it. These people are draining resources away from others.

And the amount of people with genetic issues is tiny, the vast majority of cases is due to over eating. The only other reason I can think of would be mental health issues.

    Not at all.

I hate seeing people with severe illness not getting treatment because of lack of funds when fat people/ smokers are getting the lions share because there are so many. I really don't see how it is fair.

How can you say for certain an ailment is because someone is obese though. You can't.

Ok, I'd put it simply, you don't have to be certain of the cause, you just have to be certain their weight is not helping them. If you know that when you reach a certain weight or BMI your healthcare diminishes then I don't see the problem. If you want to carry on stuffing your face then you pay for it.

I really don't see an issue with that and as I've said before it might add some incentive to halt the countrys present trend.
