I don't see Grimsby or Scunthorpe as 'local' at all but saying that I'd probably rather hear their news than Leicesters which is what you get on here. I watch the local news and have no idea where half the places are most of the time.
Keats, Steven wright, glen little on the bench how old are they? Devitt on the bench can't get a game in non league ffs
agree about david burns b.a., indeed my own personal opinion of his relative Professionalism has mellowed somewhat. not that my opinion has any relavance anyway. i actually think that burns, white, et.al, would sooner cover their real local teams but their paymasters have defined their duties. the key word in your arguement is 'local'. why do you describe scunny and grimsby as 'local'. until the BBC decreed as such, they were not local at all. indeed, speak to any resident over the river, and their affiliation is to lincoln, boston, and even nottingham. notts cc play at cleethorpes for goodness sake! as i have said before, how many in grimsby were celebrating their local hero, luke campbell's success in boxing and dancing? my local teams are in york, ferriby, scarboro, brid, and even leeds, selby and middlesboro. certainly not in an area with no cultural affiliation across a river where i never go.
I'd say the Lincolnshire sides became much more local than they were when the bridge was built rather than any political boundaries determining it. But then I'm working on local being nearest and most accessible. I doubt many in Carlisle would say that Manchester is more local than Gretna just because Gretna is in Scotland and the other two in England.
Or on the secondary track between Donny and Hull. There's only a problem at times when the other track is also closed for maintenance, my train from Donny last Friday certainly didn't turn into a coach or go via Selby.
yet york is nearer and far more accessible to me by your definition than anywhere you call local, but the BBC would prefer me to listen to nothingness from louth, wisbeach, etc, etc. i go to york, leeds, teeside, and even sheffield and donny more than 10 times per month. i can't remember the last time i went over the humber bridge to anywhere. why would i have the need?
The best team won on the day, but it does show its a bit of a lottery. Just hope it will spur City on to avoid the play-offs.
I think you'll find there are plenty of residents over the river who support City, especially in Barton. My Dad was from Barton and as a small boy was taken to Grimsby (who were in the top division at the time) and Boothferry Park but chose to support the Tigers even though it required two trains and a ferry to get to games. He used to tell of the time he came back on leave from the Army and went to watch a City night game only to get off the ferry to discover that there wasn't a connecting train and he had to walk the 5 miles from New Holland back to Barton. His only other affinity with the North Bank was that his mother's family had worked at Elstronwick Hall but that was before he was even born.
To be fair, it's due to be closed for maintenance most weekends so there is the disruption (I get through on just about the last one on a Friday night before they close it), but you would think with us playing on the Monday of a Bank Holiday weekend that the normal 2 day bit would be done by then, or they could delay it to a more opportune time.
I agree with you, I have no affiliation with any part of Lincolnshire and they have none with us. However I don't give the slightest **** about places like York either. Ferriby is the only one on that list I consider part of my local area, and that's because it's more or less Hull, but don't tell Carmine! I actually make no 'argument' about local teams at all. I know you probably want one but no one really disagrees with you so it isn't going to happen.
