I used to think it was compulsory to have "The Great Escape" for your fave film as a Saints fan. Um, but then it wasn't!

Seriously i love the Ghibli stuff, anyone with children 5 to 12yrs old should use them as an opportunity for real family viewing.
Personal fave is The Cat Returns, anyone who can see Grave of the Fireflies twice is hard.

    Hi Ian.
    For children/adults.

    From the Ghibli series.
    Kiki's delivery service.
    Whisper of the heart.
    The cat returns.
    Howl's moving castle.
    Arrietty.

    Ghibli only for adults.
Grave of the fireflies. (unbelievably sad)
    Princess Mononoke.
    Pom poko.
    Only yesterday.
Nausicaa of the valley of the wind.

    Other animé I would recommend.
    Ah my Goddess.
    Chobits.
    Noein.
    Moonphase.
    Ergo proxy.
    Haibane Renmei.
    Metropolis.
    Mahoromatic.

Once you get into animé, you swiftly realise that it runs from the cutest schmaltz, to (not my taste) the last word in uber violence.

Must admit, I loved Master & Commander. I've realised I've watched it too often, and occasionally I'll start to watch it and realise it's too soon, as well. Master & Commander is one of those films where I know that, if I give myself enough time in between viewings, I can really enjoy it every successive time. Shawshank Redemption is another. I watched Bull Durham the other evening on TV, and it's a bloody excellent film. Sometimes, it's too clever for it's own good, but it's not one of those films. I mention it because Kevin Costner features in one or two of my favourite modern films. Field of Dreams is a delight, straight out of the era from Frank Kapra and It's a Wonderful Life. But Costner also did Dances with Wolves which, though uneven, is a superb film. And although I've mentioned it before, Open Range vies for being the best of the Western genre I've ever seen. And believe me, with my dear old Dad, who loved the category, but never saw OR before he died, I've seen plenty.

Loved Field of Dreams. Could have been too schmalzy but instead was heart lifting.
