They should have got at least a draw at Chelsea when they were robbed and have beaten Man United and Arsenal. If you'd have said before those 3 games that Wigan would take 6 points from them you'd be laughed out the room. They looked dead and buried a few weeks ago but as they always do year on year they have a late season run and stay up, and they look to be doing it again. Echo the sentiments with Martinez, a decent bloke who's done a good job to keep a club the size of Wigan in the top flight against the odds the last couple of years and looks like he could do it again. With the dramas picking up a bit as well i'd be worried if I was a Blackburn or Bolton fan, Villa should be ok. With a bit of momentum going Wigan look favourites to stay up out of that group of teams, Blackburn on a poor run of form look like they could drop and hard to choose between Bolton and the dramas for the last spot. It will go to the wire.
Imagine if they had our fans. Martinez would have gone ages ago, and would be boo'd at every game. Just goes to show eh? I hope they stay up, I like the club, the owner and Martinez. I work with a Wigan fan and his smile this morning was as big as lancashire. Even better is, we work in London so hes in MAJOR smug mode with the local dirty cockneys!
Yes must agree. It brought back the memories of our wonderful PL night @ the Emerates. Sky sports commentator Martin Tyler did say in his commentary last night that Arsenne Wenger is the worst looser in the PL. Lol. Wigan were robbed @ Chelsea as well recently and I hope they stay up. Its now 2 from Bolton DQPR and Blackburn for the drop but Aston Villa could well come right into it if they loose there next 2 games. Well done Wigan.
It's good to see Arsenal get beaten and by a team playing good football, but 200 travelling fans for a team battling relegation is bloody awful support. They get the about the same home gate as us, I'm surprised that their travelling support is so low, you'd expect there to be at least 200 Wigan fans currently living in London.
Wigans loss at Chelsea was purely down to the crap lino not doing his job properly. Funny how he has not had a game since. Mike Riley rang up Martinez to apologise. The whole country i would suggest wants Wigan to stay up. Small club yes but with a big heart and a well run club. Loyal club.
I don't think we can complain. Ours might decrease like that next season. Alot of people are staying away from the KC week in week out. Away days will take a hit sooner rather than later.
Well with the Sackings that happened at Liverpool last week I wonder IF Dalglish moves up stairs in the summer to become Director of Football will Martinez be approached ? I agree he has done wonders 2 years in a row to keep them up and Yes he does deserves a bigger club. Liverpool would be very good to watch playing a 3 - 4 - 3 system and they have the players to do so. Moses to Liverpool anyone ?
Great win for Wigan - some very happy faces here in the North West this morning. Looking bad for Blackburn now but I still think Bolton will scrape clear and it will be QPR for the drop with Wolves already certain for relegation. Wigan have an easier run in than most but Bolton have two games in hand. No tears if it is QPR - going to be an interesting last few weeks.
Aston Villa next 3 fixtures are Sunderland(h)sat, Bolton(h)tuesday and then WBA(a) sat week. IF they loose those then they could well be at risk of the drop. With Wolves relegation confirmed this saturday That leaves just 2 places. Blackburn could well be going as well. The Vultures will have a field day with Wolves and Blackburn for starters. One fears for what they both would have left on there squads for next season ?
He has some funny opinions about things, Martinez has done great and Whelan has a heart of gold, you can't knock Wigan really, there are other teams to have a go at other than them.
I would have thought Wolves' finances are pretty healthy and I guess they'll spend their parachute payments and look pretty good next season.
I would expect so. Somewhere not long back I posted an article about what PL clubs would need to do to their ticket prices to change their current financial results to being break even. Wolves were one of only 4 clubs that could reduce prices (ie they were one of only 4 clubs that made a profit in 2010/11).
Wolves have surely made a colossal **** up by building (or starting to) that big extension to their stand. I might even be right in thinking that they've halted it, or I imagined that. I reckon Wolves are gonna have to do some pretty serious penny pinching.
If they've arranged the building work contracts correctly it'll be in phases and by halting it they'll be removing the future costs until they're ready to continue. They'll be belt tightening to a point, but I expect the sales of Doyle and maybe 1 or 2 more will see them with a budget far bigger than almost any other club in the Championship next season.
