However long they're given it won't be enough.

I didn't know Steve very long (I knew him through working at Nu Bar, where he was a chef), but he was one of the nicest blokes you'll ever meet. I'm grateful to have known him and I hope this sentencing is some small modicum of justice for the family he has left behind.

It's life, which in this country can be anywhere between 25 and 40 years. I don't know if a predetermined state of imprisonment has been announced yet.

It doesnt have to be a unanimous verdict? It does here, they would have been a mistrial if the jury couldnt reach a unanimous verdict. They would have had to do a retrial or decide not to put them on trail again. Normally they put them on trial again obviously.

I think most people would agree that capital punishment is acceptable under these sort of circumstances, regardless of political views.

4 and a half years for trying to behead someone, going into the flat tooled up. ten years easily for that. Stronger sentencing then and he wouldnt have been out to do this. Two unprovoked assaults in the weeks leading up to this. Quicker use of the CCTV for those assaults and he should have been locked up before the tragedy.

Only 4 and a half years? Geeze. Breaking and Entering, Kidnapping, Assault with a deadly weapon, Burglary, Attempted Murder, Use of a weapon in the commission of a felony, Animal Cruelty, and Felony Gang Association. They would have probably gotten around 50 years to life for that here.

Well yes if you are rich you can get away with just about anything. I am sure it is like that in most places.

Although even OJ is in jail. Kidnapping and robbery I think.
