Well, I can see this is something that's going to divide opinion!! When I've seen him play CB, I thought he handled the role well and my main concern with him at RB, is that he doesn't have the speed to track the speedier wingers. Personally, I was looking forward to seeing R Bennett and Turner as first choice CB pairing. Looks like we'll just have to see how the season develops.
Martin is not a very poor centre-back. In the Premier League he's always looked more capable there than at right-back without a doubt.
That has to be one of the greatest 'Auto correct=auto fail' moments, GE! As for Martin, I felt he has done well at CB over the last three years both for City and Scotland. Like JR, I feel he lacks pace now to play regularly at RB, though he'd probably manage in the Championship most of the time. I suspect he will go on playing at both positions this season, as he did at Dereham where he played CB for the first half then RB for the first 20 minutes of the second half.
Surely your Captain has to be the first name on the teamsheet. Does that apply to Rusty - I don't think so. IMO he is not our best RB and Turner Bassong and Bennett are better at CB. With all the unknown comings and goings during the next few weeks why did this permanent appointment have to be made now?
well out of bassong, bennett and turner he is by far the worst centre back and almost every time he's played that role we've conceded goals galore. he showed against a level 8 side that its not his natural position and i find it alarming that our manager seems to want to convert him to that role. he should be an emergency centre back but nothing more. he is a right back, his strengths all point to that being his best position so play him there or don't play him at all. if adams isn't happy with his centre backs sign a new one who is comfortable playing there! its not rocket science.
