Good appointment. I'd have preferred Redknapp because he has a better rapport with a lot of the big players, but Hodgson was always my second choice. First appointment I've been pleased with in my lifetime I think!
Oh a dig. Very much a dig. I honestly didn't think this weekend could get any better. But it now has.
I thought that brendy was being as neurotic as me. Why did Nige have to mention the possibility of leaving...even in passing I found it unsettling.
Who has had a good time managing Liverpool in recent times . If the fans were in charge Wenger, Fergusson and Daglish would all have been sacked before now! On the Spurs board they are all gutted as they want rid of Redkapp - as much as I am not keen on the man and his media lap dogs I don't think he has done too badly at the club.
Nothing to stop Spurs ditching him. And hey, when Appleton then jumps ship at Pompey to take the top job at WBA, Harry can walk back into his spiritual home again.
I just don't think Pearce is tactically good enough - he can get the players motivated but as a manager he underachieves and has little experience.
Can't decide whether he would be good or not; he's good at getting average teams to perform above what they're capable of, but isn't particularly good at handling the egos.
I am delighted by the news; the FA have finally done something constructive, and if he is appointed he is the best English manager for the job currently.
True, with the England U21's, they were expected to go very far in the tournament and didn't even get past the group stage.
As much as i dislike Harry Redknapp i thought he would be perfect for the england job and i bet he wishes he had got it considering the run that spurs are on and the prospect of losing modric and bale. I don't think Hodgson is necessarily a bad appointment but i think it would suit Harry and i think his man-management of players is excellent that is one of the main qualities that an international manager needs.
Great appointment if it happens. First step in the right direction for the FA. It's time for a long term man and Hodgson is perfect, he will blood the young players far more effectively than what Redknapp would. What needs to happen now is vast improvements of the youth players throughout the country.
I watched the games of that tournament and England were awful, except Smalling and Jones. We played some very strange formations (eg Mancienne as a holding midfielder) and posed little goal threat despite having Welbeck, Sturridge, Sinclair, Oxlade-Chamberlain etc available.
Other than Wenger I think the FA should have thought outside the box and gone for Clive Woodward. What has he got? Knowledge of how to win international tournaments, man-management skills including big egos, organisational ability and he's media savvy. Obviously he would need football coaches to do the actual coaching but I'm sure there are common areas that link football and rugby regarding a player's fitness and wellbeing. After all we had Lawrie McMenemy as a manager and what was he prior to becoming our manager way back when? Yet went on to be successful with us! If it is Hodgson it is a very safe appointment and all will be forgiven if he picks Rickie for this year's Euros. PS: Where are the other pretenders? Defoe (permanently on the subs bench), Bent (out injured) Campbell (who??) and Wellbeck (hardly going to set the world on fire despite his early promise with Manure) Rickie has got to be going!
I'm happy. I think it would be a shrewd appointment by the FA and I like the way they haven't been pressurised by the media and appointed Redknapp.
