Suicide apparently, absolutely shocking news. He was a great actor and a bloody brilliant comedian - my dad's favourite he was.

This is more awful news to wake up to, we've certainly lost some good uns so far in 2014.

RIP o captain, my captain <peacedove>

Gutted, this is why mental healthcare should receive more funding, urgently because right now there's next to no support

I hear he was friends with Christopher Reeves, after the riding accident he was about to go for a back operation when a Dr in full scrubs speaking in a deep Russian accent walked in and insisted he was there to deliver a rectal exam.

What a joker he was, all too easy to be overcome by your demons no matter how rich/successful/loved you are, RIP

Has anyone watched What Dreams May Come?

Robin Williams
Cuba gooding junior
Max Von Sydow

We're in it, beautiful film very raw an emotional but ultimately uplifting movie. I like to have a good blear at it sometimes.

Shame such a legendary actor. Totally agree with Royal barclay about his versatility if you've only seen him in comedies check out One Hour Photo, Dead Poets Society, Insomnia etc.

i was genuinely heartbroken by this news this morning.

incredibly versatile as an actor and incredibly funny.

as for alan brazil, he's such a **** (sorry - bad word but appropriate). depression is a deeply difficult illness to cope with and its idiots like him who gloss over it or pretend its not an issue that seriously do my head in. sacked? too right he should be. but then he should have been sacked when he went drink driving. he was moaning about williams leaving behind a sorry mess for his family to pick up. i don't know, perhaps i'm going mad and drink drivers don't leave behind absolute carnage and agony for people...

Rest in piece Robin.

Was a part of my childhood and growing up will never forget him and the way he made me laugh. He was unique in that he could make all generations laugh at the same thing, awesome guy and I'm totally gutted that he has gone.

Can't even be bothered to get into the Brazil thing, not worth the effort.

Rich i seriously doubt that a lack of funding for mental health support was an issue given robin Williams considerable personal fortune and the cultural need for counselling that seems prevalent in California. Don't disagree with your sentiment but the case of robin Williams rather detracts from your argument than supports it.

Regardless a sad day and a little more happiness fades from the world.

Re the Christopher reeve practical joke they were at acting school together and the only two graduates from the advanced class in 1976 (I think).

Very sad news coming so soon after the loss of the legend that was Robin Williams.

RIP both. <peacedove>

PS Alan Brazil is a prick! <ok>

Disappointed to see that the papers are enjoying telling us about every lurid last detail splashed in large capitals across the front cover (I didn't even pick up a paper, but it was so brazen I could not get away from the headlines simply by being on the underground with everyone holding up the Metro).

Brazil is the sort of media personality whose name I have to plug into google every time I scratch my head wondering why the hell someone thought he has any mandate to tell us what he thinks. He is also the sort of media personality whose wikipedia entry does not give an adequate explanation (13 caps for Scotland, what?)
