It doesn't though, it's too easy to abuse it. Look at your rep power being over 100k. Happy Clapper above has a reasonably positive one built up over time on our forum where there's no rep whoring. One neg rep from you and he goes from 140ish to about -1,100, and the green cards become a massive string of red cards. If we get a new poster who's been on another forum previously then it indicates absolutely nothing to us. When PLT became a mod we had the decision queried by the site admin because he had a neg rep, all down to the fact we hardly use it on here and someone had been abusing the system by just neg repping him for the hell of it.

 

They should enhance the bit where people like posts and do away with the rep, surely as you can only like a post once it would be a more accurate reflection of whether what was said was a decent post or not. The rep system on the other hand just seems a bit childish to me.

You can only rep each post once as well, to rep a person repeatedly you have to find different posts, it's the cumulative effect of people intentionally repping for the sake of repping and creating posts purely so they can keep repping each other that's the problem.

To be honest we're getting a bit to hung up on it for a general discussion. I couldn't really care what systems are active, but much like the swearing with the option to turn the filter on, I think if there's a function that a particular forum doesn't use we shouldn't be affected by other forums using it. We are though affected by some plank(s) who insist on going round 5 starring every thread just for the sake of it, which makes the front page of our section look a right mess when they've done it. Likewise, despite being one of the biggest and longest standing forums on here we found our ability to select our own moderators called into question just because people were misusing the rep system. Had that been us asking for our first moderator rather than an additional/replacement one we'd just have been told no as there'd have been no "known and trusted" posters to ask about it. Or the admin could have gone by rep and chosen to ask the person with the biggest rep, even though that would be someone who'd been whoring around on other forums rather than gaining it naturally.

 

If you want to fix it quickly:

If you see the menus at the top of the screen. Hover over Community, then click Experience. When it loads that screen the bit where the menus were has been replaced by an option to give away points. Select a user to give the points to and then give them all away.

 

Can't do it on my phone. Rep means nothing because It doesn't exist on the I phone app.

 

If it's the same as the Android app you also won't have seen the full glory of AKCJ's avatar. The Android app doesn't accept gif files as animations, so he just looks like he's got he City badge on it's own. Those of us on the website get to see it flashing round between the City and Leicester badges, and a screen saying he lost a bet. It makes me laugh because we know what it means, but to someone who doesn't it'd be hard to tell which badge he'd included as a result of the bet, if anyone asks I'm going to say the Leicester one.
