http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...sis-not-a-great-player-and-as-for-Rooney.html The world cup argument against Messi not being a great player doesn't stand up, the Champions League is the greatest football tournament now and Messi has proven himself in the finals of that
Pele slags off Messi and Maradonna. Pele says Neymar is the best player in the world. Nothing to do with where they're from and playing to the home crowd then.
My favourite thing about that article is the comment from the Man Utd fan who agrees Messi aint that good but he's wrong about Rooney cos the reason he doesn't score so much is he's such a team player and almost scored three hat tricks in a row...now I may be wrong but i'm sure Messi has scored consecutive hat tricks a few times in the past couple of years... Oh and as for Pele, utter rubbish, may have scored 1000 goals but never tested himself in Europe against the very best club sides in the world, yes he won three world cups but playing for a very gifted generation for Brazilian football. He sounds a very bitter old man about the Argentines and to say Neymar is the best is laughable, on what basis? Oh yeah he's Brazilian and plays for Santos, he's not fit to clean Messi's boots at present.
The World Cup isn't the best showcase for players anymore it's as simple as that. The games are mostly ultra-defensive nowadays in the finals. It's a shame Pele can't recognise Messi for what he is, one of the best forwards ever seen, nationality shouldn't come into it even if he has a World Cup to plug.
You got to laugh at what he wrote about Maradona though- one footed, not good in the air (apart from the hand of god obviously) and a druggie.
i cant stand Pele and his constant attacks on quality players through history . For me Maradona wins that argument between Pele and Maradona tho Di Stéfano wins hands down anyway
He once tipped both Norway and Columbia to win the world cup. Says it all. Second best player of all time behind Maradona, knows nothing about football.
Pele once said Nick Barmby will become one of the greatest ever players. Needless to say he's not that bright.
He also once declared that Nii Lamptey was ‘The New Pele’. The Ghana striker was a star of the 1991 U17's World Cup. By the age of 21 he was at Coventry, where he scored no goals(he also scored no goals for Aston Villa), before going on to score no goals in Italy, Argentina, Turkey, Portugal, Germany, China, Saudi Arabia, Ghana and South Africa. He blamed his drop in form on 'being possessed by dark forces'.
Turned over a new leaf, with NP's departure? I thought not - same old same old.... [Edit: Sorry - mustn't get personal!]
His predictions in the 2002 World Cup were brilliant...final would be between Argentina and France, neither made it past the group stage, and Brazil wouldn't get out of their group, the beat Germany in the final haha. If I ever meet Pele gonna get him to pick a 15 team accumulator for me then bet against every result, easy money haha
10) China 2002 Pele Prediction: China will qualify for the next round from their 2002 World Cup group. Outcome: China finish bottom of Group C with no wins, no draws, no points, no goals, as well as -9 in their goal-difference column. 9) Spain 1998 Pele Prediction: Spain are favourites for the 1998 World Cup in France. Outcome: Spain humiliatingly dumped out in the first round after losing to Nigeria, and drawing with Paraguay. 8) Colombia To Live American Dream Pele Prediction: Colombia will win the 1994 World Cup in the USA. Outcome: Colombia exit the competition in the first round, finishing bottom of their group. Their defender Andres Escobar is also tragically shot dead by an angry fan after Colombia return home. 7) Argentina, France & World Cup 2002 Pele Prediction: Argentina & France will both reach the final. Outcome: Both countries eliminated in the first round, France without even scoring a goal. 6) Escape To Victory Pele Prediction: During the famous film starring Sylvester Stallone and Michael Caine, Allies star Pele is brutally fouled in the first half by the Nazi opponents. The injured Brazilian claims there is no way he can continue and is carried off. The Allies are 4-0 down, and a recovery is deemed impossible. Outcome: Pele returns in the second half and inspires his team to an improbable comeback, even scoring a stunning bicycle kick. Even in fiction, Pele's predictions go wrong. 5) Ronaldo Is Finished Pele Prediction: Ronaldo will never play football again, and his career is over, following a serious injury for Milan in February 2008. Outcome: Ronaldo returns in March 2009 for Corinthians, scoring 10 goals in his first 14 games to win the Campeonato Paulista. Rumoured to be on the verge of a national team recall. 4) Nii Lamptey – ‘The New Pele’ Pele Prediction: After starring in the 1991 Under-17 World Cup, which also featured Alessandro Del Piero, Pele proclaims Ghana youngster Lamptey as his successor, ‘The New Pele’. Outcome: What happens next goes down in football infamy. Lamptey spectacularly fails to fulfil his talent, believing himself that he was cursed by dark forces. The midfielder shifts around clubs such as PSV, Aston Villa, Coventry, Venezia and Ankaragucu, without success, and endures tragedy in his personal life, as two of his children die. 3) Nicky Barmby - Up There With Zidane, Maldini & Ronaldo Pele Prediction: Nicky Barmby will become a world class star. Outcome: Nicky Barmby becomes nothing more than an average player, winning 23 England caps, and never even appearing in a World Cup. 2) Africa Will Rule Pele Prediction: An African nation will win the World Cup before the year 2000. Outcome: It is now 2009, and an African country has still yet to get past the quarter-final. 1) Brazil & World Cup 2002 Pele Prediction: Brazil won’t even get past the group stages. Outcome: Brazil win the World Cup.
Soz but Pele was ****. Shoots from the half way line and misses. I could do that. Does that dummy thing to distract the keeper and misses. I could do that . The goal in the world cup in '58 bonged in off his shin. I could have done that if it wasn't 14 years before I was born. ****ing rubbish. He'd be at Barnsley never mind Wigan . Oh and he's a dick as well.
Pele was great in his first World Cup ,above average in his second and kicked of the park in his third .A very talented player but a lousy judge of Talent. He had great players around him like Garrincha and Zico etc. which helped to showcase his skill but I think in years to come Messi will be recognised as the best.
