    Which moral standards?

    Promoting homosexuality?

That makes us immoral to 3/4 of the world.

There are homophobic and racist people out there though, it will never be stopped, perhaps you can't directly abuse someone for it but you hear it all the time, even around your mates, them or you will say something incorrect, it's just life

We didn't dismantle the Empire- we still have the Commonwealth. One of Nelson Mandela's first acts on becoming President was to seek re-instatement for SA in this proud group of nations.

Many other countries are far more advanced than us in sexual equality than us.

Racism is not illegal here, but we do have a race relations industry.

There is an aggressive minority pro gay lobby who are unrepresentative of the country as a whole (as Cameron is now finding out!)

The fact that 3/4 of the world think something is wrong makes me think it is more likely to be sound than something only adhered to by 1/4.

What's your stance on Islamic or Jamaican homophobes?

Have you had much luck educating them or informing them of their backwardness?

I think San Fran and NYC are tolerant of sodomites and lesbians, the vast majority of other places are distinctly unimpressed.

so it's ok for someone to blatantly abuse someone for their sexual status or the colour of their skin, if you don't like a certain race or a gay person that's fine, you should keep it to yourself, that's the point I was making, if a bigot or racist started rambling on to a black or gay person in public about "their" views, then that would be wrong

Sodomites? You sound like the governor from the Shawshank redemption. <laugh>

    As Jello Biafra once said,

    @ City Agro.

Yes, other countries have their different ways of looking at things but a lot of it (especially the stuff about not letting people be gay) is based on religion, and without getting into a religion debate the very essence of that is believing something without any evidence or reasoning just because you want to, or have been taught to. The way we look at equality isn't based on some religious nonsense it's just based on making the world a nice place for everyone to live together in. I can't possibly comprehend how serious inequality in other countries can be excused just because it's their way of doing things.

Do you actually know any gay people or just the ones on the TV? Sorry to burst your 1970's bubble but times have changed, no wonder footballers are scared to come out when there are ignorant people like you still kicking about and probably educating their children to be neanderthals too. My advice to you is broaden your social circle and learn about the world instead of clinging to outdated prejudices.

I saw it, some of the footage was shocking. No they won't do anything to the tournament all it is doing is highlighting a problem, people would have kicked off if they didn't show it do they can't win. Sol Campbell has been a victim so for me is qualified in this instance, would you have preferred someone who has read about it all but no actual experience or feelings about it.

As I see it, a huge part of the problem is the confusion of the word 'racism'.

For a start, it's more a concept than a word, and one with no clear agreed definition that stands up to any meaningful debate as it falls apart under scrutiny. That's when the main users of the word hide behind it as a shield and a device to stifle debate.

Most people take others at face value and based on their merits, especially in football. My experience is that it tends to be the politically correct industry that keeps pushing out bizarre justifications and dictats for having a programme of bias in favour of what they ironically clump together as one group but ignoring others.

It's a safe bet that pointing out the emperor's naked will get me labelled as a racist by some.

Edit. Forgot to put my main point.

I haven't watched the Panorama programme, but have seen similar. In my opinion, labeling the problem as 'racism' is lazy and counter productive as it misses the bigger picture.

Racism is generally just a symptom of other social unrest rather than the issue itself.

We have laws for anti-social behaviour, bullying etc. To have extra ones based on skin colour could be seen as racist and certainly gives a focus for some that feel disenfranchised.

For all the resources put into it, it's clear the PC industry has failed dramatically, to such an extent you could be forgiven for thinking it was only ever designed to keep people arguing over a non-issue instead of looking to see what's really happening.

So, trouble makers should be dealt with as that, not politicised.

So there's no such thing as racism! Who would have thought it? That's got to be a good start for a Tuesday morning.
Also, don't you think you should really watch a programme before you write an article about it?

So the treatment of the Jews in WW2 by the Germans and the treatment of negroes by the KKK in America, to give a couple of examples, would not be defined by you as racism. Interesting!

Would be illuminating to read your views on 'sexism'
