Agreed. There are products in every market which beat Apple hands down but they've managed to create this perception of quality with almost everyone. A bit like how all businessmen have to have a Blackberry because no other phone can check e-mails and do other business stuff. That's another thing, they've awarded themselves this badge of honour for innovation, everyone thinks they're the first to do something but it's always been done by someone else already but not quite so famously.
I use a second hand Iphone 4, battery not very good but its my first smartphone. no one has saved the blobs and its on ios6 so it cant be jailbroken untethered.... yet I have a 64 gig Ipad mini and an Asus Nexus 7 and for 300 quid more the ipad is grossly overpriced. With Apple i can see for myself you pay over the odds for the name.
While the people who buy equipment don't have knowledge on these subjects and blindly believe the marketing hype (as has already been shown in this thread), Apple will continue to sell overpriced products. There's been a million arguments already between people for and against Apple and no-one ever seems to be swayed by the others arguments. I just compare specifications and price at the point of purchase and make my decisions based on what I see. Not bought an Apple yet (they've not even been close to competive value, ever) but I would if they had innovative technology in the future that wasn't already old news. I just don't see it happening any time soon.
I've got a Galaxy Ace 2 - my first smart phone and I love it. Its not that expensive to buy ( think I paid about £150) and then you can shop around for a sim only deal which covers what you want re calls, internet etc
If it wasn't for the iPhone, you wouldn't have all the other smartphone options to chose from, they created the touch screen smartphone concept and it took everyone else three years to catch up. The same is true of the iPad, which created a whole new market for a form of computer that nobody actually knew they wanted. People will always pay a bit more for a market leader and in the past five years, they've bought and sold every other player in the market.
This is exactly what I mean. I'd had a touchscreen smartphone (HTC) for two years at the time the iPhone was released and mine was better than the iPhone specwise a year before the iPhone was released. All my purchases since have been at least a year ahead of the iPhone variants. It's not worth discussing as Apple users just believe what they are told.
You're allowed an opinion but to suggest that Apple invented any variant of smartphone and were even 1 day ahead of their competitors, let alone 3 years as you stated, is entirely wrong and not close to being factual. It shows the standard Apple users blinkered viewpoint, perpetuated by Apples marketing. This was exactly the point I'd made and you just proved it. Apologies for pointing out the obvious.
I can't wait for Apple to become the first company to launch a mini-tablet. I've got one of the prototypes that they've cleverly disguised as a Samsung in order to get some market research. In a few years it's existence will be completely denied by ipad mini users.
erm i dont have an iPhone - ive the S3 - one thing that is pretty constant is that if an APP appears on the iPhone it is usually better than the android version . Now i like to play about with music production and the iPhone is capable of things android can't . that said the majority of people buy an iPhone 'coz of the logo next to the camera when they take those goofy pic for facebook , but its a happy coincidence they picked a bloody good phone
To be honest I'm happy they are overpriced and sought after these Ipads as I could sell the one I won instantly for a lot of money, not sure any other product would go as quick.
I used to have a Sony "Mars Bar" back in the early 90's, remember them? It had a battery life of three minutes, then bleeped constantly, to let you know it needed recharging. We seem to of moved on since then.
The first mobile I got was in 99 I think, a BT CELLnet ownbrand, was like space-age back then but if you whipped one out of your pocket now all the cool kids would piss themselves laughing I reckon
i wonder if we will see a difference as the 'Jobs' effect wears off. For those who wish to be inspired, read his biography. And never forget: 'Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish' And even that was pinched from the Whole Earth Catalogue!
if we really wanted to take it right back, i think you ll find that Steve Jobs nicked the technology from Xerox anyway. having read and admired so much about Steve Jobs, the seeds of his imagination and marketing prowess is founded in the music of Bob Dylan. As they say: 'the best ideas are usually somebody else's'.
