Agree Stan in fact past the late 60's I thought most of his output was crap but his early stuff is pure R&R but he is usually ridiculed along with others of that era .... like Billy Fury and Marty Wilde
Best gig i've been to was either The Verve in 2008 (the first reunion gig at the Roundhouse), Arctic Monkeys in Liverpool in 2011 or The Stone Roses at Heaton Park last year. I'm off to see Arctic Monkeys again on 2nd November in Sheffield.
Thing is Macca its fine listening to the CD's/DVD's You Tube Vimeo or whatever but a gig, whatever your flavour of music, is where the blood stirs being a guitarist myself I often try and see the fingering of the guitarist to try and pick up any tips. The thing these days, large open air type gigs are not for me, I'm past all that, I like a theatre type gig a more intimate arena, Live Aid type gigs are out of the questions these days.
Oh, I forgot about The Libertines at the HMV Forum in 2010. That was ****ing ace. I managed to find half of it on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4oYlvZUt2s
Probably well before your time but I think you would have enjoyed the Camden Festival in the late '60's and early '70's in the open on Parliament Fields, Hampstead on a balmy summers evening as it wasn't too crowded.Two bands I recall were the Edgar Broughton Band and Soft Machine who had songs that lasted longer than the formulaic present 3-4 minutes.Thats probably why I enjoy The Allman Brothers "In memory of Elizabeth Read" (13 mins) ,Lynard Skynyrd "Freebird" (9 mins) CSNY "Southern Man" (12 mins) and Stevie Nix "Edge of Seventeen" (video version 12mins).
If you haven't caught this before C'mon Ref, it's worth 90 minutes in front of your monitor with a few beers by your side. Mayall's still on the road occationally - saw him in a small club in Toronto a couple of years or so ago - still got it - doesn't seem to have aged one bit . Loved Chicken Shack too.... Brian Auger & Trinity from the same era always put on a great show too;
LOL nope it is around my time well late 50's early 60's when I first listened to music on a radiogram much of it American stuff crooners like Bobby Darin, Al Martino, Johnny Ray, Johnny Mathis, you get the drift, Britain had her own versions. But then lightening struck in the form or R&R Elvis and the likes then the 60's and The Beatles and the rest, as they say is history. But the bands you mention I have not heard of but I shall check them out so thanks for the tip, oh baring Lynyrd Skynyrd , Sweet Home Alabama?
Thanks for the post tigerscanada I will check it out later as its work for me in a few moments, cheers.

A few more influential British artists (Alexis Korner, Graham Bond, John Mayall, Long John Baldry), who along with others spawned some fantastic off-shoots: Mayall's Bluesbreakers... A familiar theme develops around 3:20 in Long John Baldry's track..... ...as in this track..... The problem with those mentioned so far, is that they only play one guitar at a time...
