Biggest, uncool ,spontaneous outburst of cheering from 200 14 year olds was when in the middle of various dance routines they put on the new hit record-Bohemian Rhapsody. Was very different to anything I had heard before and the kids were just being honest.
The birth of the music video I believe, the video for this iconic song was that the video was a breakthrough in video making, many new and different techniques used.
one of the turning points in music was the first time a guitar sound was distorted / overdriven James Cotton and Willy Johnson spring to mind
No doubt for me - Heartbreak Hotel by Elvis.....see Stan's posting above... Buddy Holly was the next to capture the attention - a mate of mine's old man was in the Merch & brought back all sorts of stuff from the States......including dirt cheap Capstan cigarettes....oh the memories ( my mate used to nick the smokes from him of course !)....but the music was the real bonus Off "The Chirping Crickets" came..... Eddie Cochrane was brilliant: The Big Bopper of course: This was the first single I bought - didn't even have a turntable - 78 rpm......old fart , I can hear the laughs.... ....Richie Valens as well..... and his Donna Back home in England.....Billy Fury ..... and of course what almost became the Scottish National Anthem: Who could forget Marty Wilde ? Most of you no doubt... Even Cliff couldn't forget these guys:
Yes, it's a good album. Love Spreads- class riff. Out of their singles, i prefer Elephant Stone- either out the two versions are good. And Macca, 505 is a class song. Went to see Miles Kane on Tuesday. His little cameo at Glasto this year doing 505 was mint.
Exactly why I have it quoted in my sig, arguably my fave song ever. I came back to 'ull to see him Miles last Tuesday as well! He was great as always. Would be great to see him and Alex Turner do another album together. AM stole the show at Glasto by a mile imo. Do I Wanna Know? was the song of the summer.
ah. i can't help thinking that some of the memorabilia on display at some places has a certain tackiness. love the music but sometimes museums etc to commemorate is hard to pull off. there was an attempt in sheffield some years back but it was pretty awful. i've been to places (jodrell bank is a recent example) where you wander round looking at pictures on walls and reading captions to the pictures. you soon start to think you might as well be sat at home reading about it in a book or looking at the stuff on the internet. sure you can say you've been, but some places you go to and there's rather little there when you get there. i'm getting old and cynical. on the subject of a song blowing your socks off, i'm pleased to say that though it gets rarer as you get older it can still happen. trouble is all the new stuff and all the new gimmicks are much like the old stuff and the old gimmicks, unless you're a teenager.
They just don't make 'em like this any more:
The Clash, by The Clash, was the album that drove me to get a guitar and start a garageband. The Pistols, Buzzcocks, Siouxsie, Damned etc all played their part too. Though looking back now, I thing Killing Joke are the band I still like listening to most.
The great lost English rocker: And this'll take it full circle..... Must admit I like these music threads even though some of the stuff is not to my liking it does widen my understanding of the stuff that is around. Some groups/artists I've never heard of and when I sample the examples given some are worthy of being listened too. Peed off I can't do what other do though and still rely on links to music vids instead of a viewable box, I look on the properties and see what the coding is but when I try and replicate the coding for a chosen vid I just get the code and not a viewable box grrrrr
You have to copy-and-paste it into the little strip of 'film' in the tools strip above the reply box. (2nd from the right)
Shall i talk you through it mate. PS Im joking i only found out last night its taken me years. Its one of the reasons i was thrown out of the click.
Yeh hey Stan muchas gracias, thank you and I have posted the best husband and wife act since Sonny and Cher ........ well whilst it lasted and thanks again.
The first band I ever got into was Coldplay, there first two albums are fantastic. But the band that really changed the landscape where The Stone Roses. John Squire is the reason I picked up a guitar.
