I know us 'old uns' bang on a bit but when I hear todays stuff I do think those times were rather special, and the the scene in Hull at the time was buzzing, clubs etc.
How about which album started it for you? Mine was (surprise surprise looking at my avatar) Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not by Arctic Monkeys. First album I bought AND heard in full.
Then, close behind Elvis, came this guy:

The Strokes- Is This It. Before that it was just the odd single on TOTP and Radio. Well happy I saw them in Hull.
Yep another great one who died too young, funnily enough I'm in contact with a woman in America who was at a concert, with Buddy on stage, a couple of weeks before he died, she said it was pure magic to see this then rising star. He was very amiable after the show and would chat to his fans so she says, some great stories from those days when this 'new' music was beginning to emerge.
Remember the buzz about them when their demos on "Beneath the Boardwalk" came out on the Internet. Although, I did get quite sick of every band at school doing a cover of "I bet you look good on the dancefloor".
God save the queen. The first time I heard it, I just stood there and thought '**** is this?'. By the end I was hooked and my music taste forged forever. We mean it man!!!!
This was the time when I realised that my era had moved on to let others take the stage, Punk was not a genre that I understood, literally, as I couldn't fathom out what they were actually singing about it was just a row. But they changed the landscape and paved the way for others, Blondie made me look at modern music again and yes Deborah Harry did help
yeah, as if the song was written about a place that hadn't been built... i'll give it a miss, if it's all the same to you.
Nowhere near their best song anyways, and there are at least 3 better songs on that album imo. A Certain Romance is the best off that particular album, and either 505 or Only Ones Who Know their best overall. All of their albums have at least 2 quality tunes. Favorite Worst Nightmare is the best album for me, but it's hard to choose one album over the others.
