Thanks for the list, as has been said some interesting places in that list. Think Scarborough and the Isle Of Wight can be put down to the granny type visitor - who keep going back to the same place each year (I give the Channel 4 Hotel in Torquay as an example). To be honest - I think getting back to the orginal question, Players will be attracted in the main by 2 factors - are you PL and are there shops the "Missus" will want to shop in. We fail on point 1 and as for point 2 (as I don't live in Hull - I can't answer that)
Not so much his shiny shoes, more his bloody great bulbous red nose. Bill Sykes was my favourite, strutting around in his WW2 camouflage jacket, cracking jokes with an unlight *** (or was it chalk) stuck in his mouth ! Hilarious memories.
Ah! the memories are flooding back, a real whisky drinkers nose. Bill Sykes was great, but my favourite was Mr Hicks as I played cricket and he was our coach.
You're right, Hicks was a great guy. Ever get a copy of his son's book on the history of KHS ? Published in the 90's I believe.
Indeed I do, just flushed it out of my library: "From Boulevard to Kingston - The Story of Our School, 1895-1990" J.D.Hicks Published by Kingston School 1990. ISBN 0 9516081 2 6 I picked it up at the School office on one of my pilgriages back to Hull in 1992 I think. Another history of the school I picked up at the same time is: "Backward Glances", edited by Shirley Conyers & Marie Plater...often wondered if the latter was any relation to Alan ? Kingston School 1990. ISBN 0 9516081 0 X Good luck - not sure if they're still in print however
It's not available anywhere as far as I can see, it's unusual that there aren't even second hand copies available.
Thanks for the info, I'll try and source it through t'internet. By the way why not relocate the KC stadium down here in Wilts' instead of Thunder Bay. Acres of land, unfortunately play could be stopped by Tanks, would save me a 500mile round trip for every home game though.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-beating-High-Steward-Hull.html#axzz2JkZ2CcRG Think Mandy can do a job for us- a sneaky, ruthless, slick operator, even on the European stage. Prescott just not in same ball game. Hezzer too can do a job- he has some unpleasant home truths to tell us, but he's been round the block and should be listened to.
"....main rivals......"? huh they have never, or ever will be our main rivals. i suggest that you need to re-read our club history!!
Not in Shrivenham by any chance ? Cameron-Walker's successor, Woodcock, ex-army, and proud of it, asked me & my mate if we wanted to go down there for a week, right in the middle of mock-A-levels. We jumped at the chance - anything to scive off work. He thought he was punishing us & that the discipline would do us good. Fine chance - One of the best weeks we ever had - they treated us like kings at the then Army University. Is it still there ? ( with you mentioning tanks & all that ). Pleasant spot Wilts.
No in a small village on the Marlborough Downs called Cherhill, very near Avebury Stone Circles. Extremely beautiful area.
Tigerscanada, we are about 25 miles south of Shrivenham and yes there is still a military college there, called the Defence Management College.
Thanks mate - I'll look it up and see if there are any pics etc to remind me of the incessant booze-ups we had down there way back when. Nothing like having your shoes polished every morning, and then a waiter per person serving you breakfast while suffering a monster hangover....I'll never forget the experience. I should have joined up !!
Here's the 2010 and 2011 numbers. This is England only so Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dublin & Cardiff are omitted (its from visitengland.org). Numbers are for a visitor spending one night or more on a visit. Looking for these numbers I found lost of interesting factoids. Did you know - for example - that Tourism is a net loss for the country? Visitors to the UK spent about 18Bn pounds in 2011. UK residents traveling abroad spent 32Bn.
