Good on you Party. I think changing your career path, when your already in a secure job,is (in this day and age) a brave thing to do. Iv'e been in my job for 15 years now, and i suppose because i suffered long periods of unemployment before then, iv'e been reluctant to try improving my lot. I have that job security because of the specialised nature of my job, yet despite this, like you, im quite low paid, and i hate the job anyway. Now i find i'll be fifty next month and it's just too late to even bother trying to change things. Anyway, my sister in law,was exactly the same age as you, when she went to Hull uni as a mature student, she even had to qualify herself by passing maths tests and stuff first. She did social studies or something like that, and landed a well paid job as a social worker. She actually even likes her job, which is a foreign concept to many people i know. Good luck with it mate
I know of a bricklayer (and a Hull City fan) who went to theatre school and became a clown, paid for it by doing homosexual pornography on the side, well into his 50s. ESSEX GULL
If you're looking for a career change, what about the Armed Forces? Whilst you're there you can attend Officer Cadet School (Sandhurst) and gain a commission as an officer. I know a lot of people (family and friends) who have served and they say it was/is a great job and a brilliant experience. Whatever happens, good luck.
Hi Party, I wonder with your skills profile if you have thought about hospitality and specifically hotels. You can do courses in hotel management, food and beverage etc in this area. Which can lead to positions such as front of house, night manager or F & B manager - which is a lot different to being a bar or restaurant manager. Couple that with a language, say Spanish, and you could then work for say a cruise line or the resorts in places like Dubai, Abu Dhabi etc - there are lots of jobs out there in hospitality. The current Mrs Party Hull even has skills in this area. I worked in planning, buying and project management in London and the South East and got sick of it, so worked for a cruise line in the Hotel Dept - customer service, passenger administration, finance, on board HR etc. In terms of life experience, travelling the world and getting paid to do it is pretty high up there. Good luck with whatever you decide.
Party I wouldn't recommend a career in the aforementioned gay clown porn industry. It's quite specialised and I think it was just John Wayne Gacy that was into it. It didn't end well.
The gay porn could help in stretching the mouth into a clowns grin. Many on here could act as his shoes. I wouldn't rule it out straight away, at least give it a go.
Appreciate your concerns Charlie, but at this early stage, I feel I just cannot rule anything out. Not yet.
By the way you're written this you're obviously no idiot (waiting for someone to make a joke...) so I'm sure there's something decent out there for you to get your teeth into and start earning money. Write down what you enjoy doing and what skills you already have and try and build on that. I am a very decent Graphic Designer and have done some very big lucrative jobs in the past, but work dried up and for years I was on an average £800 a month, not enough especially in London, I always fiddled with cars so started buying and selling them, I'm not on fortunes, but live ok and don't worry too much about bills anymore. There's always something for somebody, best of luck!
