Who cares? This country is going down the toilet anyway. It's been declining for 100 years. I really don't see how getting between Manchester and Leeds 20 minutes quicker is going to make any difference to anything.
Sorry but I much prefer being from the East Riding of Yorkshire. Surely we can market ourselves this way.
I know I could google, but I'm lazy. Anyone know if it will affect existing services? It's one thing getting there quicker, but will there be as many services running and are they liable to affect the services on branch lines?
I've just watched the news while having lunch, there is no suggestion at all that we'd be part of HS3, merely that journey times would get quicker from Hull to Liverpool if there was a high speed link between Leeds and Manchester. It was quite clear from there is no suggestion that Liverpool to Manchester, or Leeds to Hull was being considered for HS3, though they did say they'd look to improve the service on those routes and increase the number of trains.
Bearing in mind that 101 million was allocated for the consultation period of HS2 and they are already 86% over budget, don't hurry down to the station to wait for the first train to arrive on the HS3 link network in Hull.
HS2 is a pointless waste of money & will have no positive impact on the North, just the opposite as more money will run down towards London HS3 is even more pointless as it is only planned to run from Leeds to Manchester with improved electrification from Hull to Leeds & Manchester to Liverpool, but is there really that much connection between Hull & Liverpool ?? The one thing guaranteed by HS2 & HS3 will be much higher ticket prices & a massive new burden on the taxpayer Improved high speed telecoms/internet could be far more effective allowing people to work without travelling hundreds of miles, and existing road capacity would be high enough if 60% of the freight currently on the roads was moved over to rail
