If any of you have watched 'Dont Tell The Bride' they also do weddings etc on the ship in London which can also bring in added money...and they can use it during events such as New Years etc. They could probably host allsorts from it really along with it being an attraction.
The possibilites are endless to be honest, small sporting events could be held, imagine a worlds dart or snooker championship there, a prom, a concert? Just viably the ship is just far too big to be anywhere near the city centre unless probably a few million were spent to have it at the city centre but offshore
I could imagine it will be somewhere near The Deep/Fruit Market/The Marina or possibly near that new 'moving bridge' they put up. It will need to be near the city centre to attract businesses and tourism into the centre
As much as I love the idea of the Illustrious coming to Hull it does look likely she would be too big and birthing her away from the Deep/Marina would be counter productive. We shouldn't lose momentum for the idea though so why not go for HMS York instead? We have a naval history in Hull and connections to HMS York, a Type 42 destroyer getting sold off due to the defence cuts, she'd be in good condition and a perfect fit for a Yorkshire heritage tourist attraction near the marina is it not?
The HMS York would be more practical, as it's about a third shorter and much narrower, it also has large missiles which we could point at Leeds. please log in to view this image Useless fact of the day, the one on the Thames that TC posted, actually has it's guns aimed at London Gateway(Scratchwood) Services.
What did they call that ship/boat/skip, that was dragged to Hull about 10yrs ago. It had a "Disco" and ugly women onboard. Actually had a right laugh on there once (must of had too many Cherry B's).
It was the TSS Manxman and it used to be a Liverpool/Isle of Man ferry before it became a nightclub(it was in Liverpool before it came to us). It shut after catching fire and it's been in a massive shed in Sunderland for 16 years, but apparently it's currently being chopped up for scrap(it looks about ready for it)... please log in to view this image
Did it ever get a late licence to sell alcohol? I recall going a couple of times and at 11pm they took all the alcholic drinks away and only served soft drinks
FFs lets all open up and be hhonest here. Museum, weddings, disco, tours round it. Theres one reason and one reason only why we want it here. Baggsy been the Traffic Cop!!
Piece of **** anyway !!! If you ever go on the transport bridge on the tees you might just think you have seen the manxman because if its not the same one sitting on the seabed just east of the bridge its the ****ing double. Went on it once for ****s and giggles and if i remember rightly did it not get shut down for fire regulations? too many people on it to get off safely in event of fire. Not sure if someone didnt set fire to the piece of **** eventually.
Didn't hear it myself, but someone was saying there was an item on local radio saying the boat would need to be out of the water, or it would need it's Hull scraping every decade? Anyone hear it?
I was on it for a reception and tour when it was in Dublin recently. A fantastic ship all the crew were superbly welcoming. Great night. A great coup for Hull.
