It's not the program so mutch as the format! You get the public to do almost anything and make a show of it! Everyone must be thinking it's been exhausted by now? I'm from the dads army, porridge, morcambe and wise era! It's just not entertaining to me! It's sometimes cringeworthy! The X factor love to show the poor sods who aren't the brightest people and take the piss out of them trying to sing! It's just not my thing and it's cheap tv! But like you say each to their own.
Has anyone had a go at the progamme or the winner? If so I missed it. Most who dont watch it seem to be purely bemused that it is so popular but they havent slated it or her. Have they? The most amazing success story to me is gogglebox. Again Ive never seen it and correct me if I'm wrong but is it not watching people watching tv? If I wanted to do that I could just look in the mirror.
If it's any consolation I almost added in "I expect CTWD to release a statement congratulating her hoping that this victory can be seen as an example of how someone can win national appeal without changing their name" as a joke, but decided a few would choose to ignore the obvious tongue in cheek. So, happy now? Oh, guarantee someone will still react to it now.
Carroll Levis Discoveries (1957), Opportunity Knocks (1956-1978), New Faces (1988-1986), Search for a Star (1980-1982). The TV talent show has been around for decades, don't act like its just a modern phenomenon.
I can see why people watch Gogglebox, I don't normally watch it myself, but I have seen it and they've basically record some thick people watching TV, for other people to laugh at. I actually know one of the families, we met them on holiday in Cyprus many years ago(two years running in fact), they used to own one of the most famous Jewish restaurants in London(Golders Green) but he ballsed it up and lost it, last I heard he was working as a cab driver.
None of them ever ridiculed the contestants and now you must admit the channels are saturated with this kind of format? The list is endless! Cheap television and the public are falling for it!
Coming soon to a TV channel near you " Someone's taking the piss " a fly on the wall documentary filmed in the toilets under Queen Vicky square.
I'm too young to have seen any of them so I'll take your word for it. Your right though this does seem to be the golden age of reality TV, we can only hope it this is the crest of the wave and that in the near future its popularity will decline.
I just started the thread to say good luck to a nice lady from Hull who bakes nice cakes. Seems even that is too much for the board to handle. Shame really.
This is purely a result of 24 hour tv across hundreds of channels and reality is the simplest and quickest tv to make. Wind back 25 years and there were basically 4 channels - hardly anyone had a satellite - and they stopped broadcasting during the night.
I've never watched The Great British Bake Off in my life, and I don't think I ever will. I absolutely despise soaps and reality TV shows though. I only ever watch documentaries, MOTD, Family Guy, Ghost Adventures and TV shows like Revenge and Vikings. I've never watched The Walking Dead or Game of Thrones, and I've only ever seen three episodes of Breaking Bad (I enjoyed it, but I don't have time to watch more of it). I'll watch reruns of How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory when they're on as well. That is my contribution to the thread.
