I honestly preferred Arctic Monkeys to the Stones this weekend. The whole set imo is sensational... I hope they make it a live album. Please don't abuse me... EDIT: ffs, The video was up for a few hours and it has been removed. Damn.
Alex Turner is one of the finest, and cleverest song writers we've seen in a long long time. Makes it all look so effortless.
I thought I was the only 1 who thought that. I'd rather listen to badly played bagpipes than that gash
Me too, cept bagpipes badly or well played make me want to stab myself in the face, so I would not rather do that. That Frank Turner too, how the hell he's categorised as punk is beyond me.
Arctic Monkeys were the standout performoers of the 3 days on the friday night. The entire set was fantastic. The Rolling Stones were good but spoilt by the BBC not picking the best songs to show. Also, For those who dont know the Stones only allowed the BBC to show One Hour of a 2hr 16mins set. Looks like a DVD will be released for Xmas of the whole show. Surprising choices for enjoyment were the performances of Kenny Rodgers and Sir Bruce Forsyth. Great fun Brucie. They didnt refuse to allow the Beeb to show the full set, the Beeb refused to meet their asking price for it.
Every single Artic Monkey song sounds the same, a modern day version of George Formby. I also think the lead singer comes across as a proper tit just to compound my dislike( which is actually bordering on hatred) for said band. Utter ****. The Stones were **** as well. It's all ****. All of it. No that's wrong, Rogers rocked it. Factarama.
Amounts to the same. Also, the BBC deal with the organisers not the bands. All the artists know the score. I suspect that the entire set will be on a seperate DVD soon.
The BBC did deal directly with the Stones and initially they said they'd only allow the first four songs to be televised. It wasn't about the money, Mick Jagger said "I didn't sign up for a TV show".
That makes it worse. Even Mick knows what happens @ Glastonbury and the BBC coverage. Lets wait now for the xmas dvd of the full set eh ?
At least they allowed something. The Stone Roses didn't allow any TV coverage of their performances at T in the Park, V Festival or Isle of Wight Festival.
I'll reserve judgement on the Stones then, as headliners Arctic Monkeys delivered and Mumford shouldn't have headlined because they are just too ****. Saw bits, would have liked to have seen more of PIL, The XX were OK but a poor man's version of the wonderful Cocteau Twins, Editors were good and my personal favourite this year was Nick Cave.
I havent seen any of the Nick Cave stuff yet, hope my plethora of recorded coverage caught it. Did he do Into My Arms or Come Sweetheart Come?
Agreed – I find nothing in the Artic Monkeys although they don`t actually offend me. They have no stage presence/charisma and I think the singer looks a bit like a lesbian. From what I’ve seen of it this year, I think Goat, Tom Tom Club, Primal Scream (bar Rocks which is ****) and Deap Vally were the best I saw, although I’ve still got a lot left to watch
I think your average non mainstream music fan would have heard of it but if you stopped general people in the street they woudln`t have (unlike now I'd suppose)- I recall people at work wondering where I was going and what it was. It was dead easy to get in free back then or pay someone a tenner to let you in.
