I found this quite insightful. And it doesn't mention any football management ineptitudes once http://anewnatureblog.wordpress.com/2014/02/02/world-wetlands-day-blog-on-the-level/
Thankfully in this country we tend to measure "disasters" such as this in ££££'s not in the number of deaths. Cameron has made a rod for his own back by saying money is no object. Basically a bloody stupid thing to say.
Half the country is covered in floods and what do our politicians decide to do in parliament? Pass a law to prevent smoking in cars with children present! Just about sums up the priorities for the country I reckon!
I don't suppose they planned for it to happen during the middle of the floods, but it takes a long time to pass a law. And I generally think the government and pretty rubbish.
It is not the governments job to intrude into our lives and strip away more of our civil liberties but we just seem to accept every little extra intrusion. This new law, however well intended, is simply about tokenism. It is not enforceable and is just a complete waste of time which would be better spent in dealing with the imminent disaster and crisis we face here and now. If they hate smoking and want to demonise smokers so much why don't they just make smoking illegal full stop? I think we all know why this will never happen.
I agree to an extent, although I think the timing is unfortunate rather then ill advised. I agree it is going to be very hard to enforce and efforts should maybe go elsewhere, although I do hate people smoking around kids. They will never make it illegal as they have a whacking great tax on it so a huge income, similar to alcohol. Maybe they should legalise some drugs and stick a massive tax on that? Most important thing is education so people can make educated decisions. Sadly that will not work for everyone. Sorry only read the rhetorical question after haha
It's just another excuse to criminalise tens of thousands of people and to earn millions more in fines! The mantra from our politicians is always "We know best" while they fiddle their expenses and get away scot free when they're caught!
Sadly they often only have their own interests at heart, a very money driven society. In some ways it is amazing we can keep finding new laws to make, surely there are only so many you can have!
You would have thought so but I guess they have to justify their tax payers salaries and generous expense accounts!
Ah but their pay is set by an "independent" pay body so it is nothing to do with them! Meanwhile in the real world most workers can look forward to 1 or 2% if they are lucky! I am a Tory by instinct but I am pretty much sick to death with the lot of them!
What's the point talking about politicians? We all know they're corrupt. <libelloussmiley> My daughter, bless her, chose this week to stay in a cottage in Clifton Hampden overlooking the Thames. As a keen rower, she wanted to visit the rowing museum in Henley. Luckily, she has her kayak with her, which should help.
