It's got to be Murray Walker for me, the "Murrayisms" he came amount with are amazing. Such passion too.
It has nothing to do with the broad Lancashire accent - we can't help where we're born. But bringing the fine game (imo) of cricket down to the level of Romper Room with cries of "WALLLLLLOPPP" if a boundary is scored breaks my heart. The guy is a lame equivalent of Tiswas, for me. How refreshing to hear Gower, Botham, Hussain and Simon Hughes who focus on the game rather than trying to be the frickin' court jester. Sorry, yarco, but that's one we'll never agree on Dave, your memory is far too good! please log in to view this image
Thanks Cromer for reminding me of Miss Rosalyn and Sally James. Did you know that when Sally left Tiswas she set up a business selling School Uniforms - my mind just goes into overdrive!!!!
Only just found this thread, but my all time fave was the late Hugh Johns, the forgotten man who commentated on the 1966 World Cup Final for ITV. He had a terrific voice and also commentated on one of the greatest games ever seen in a World Cup, Brazil v England 1970 ......and for you young 'uns have a look at the greatest goal ever scored from the same tournament, although Hugh is not commentating here:
