That's why they are put into separate waves, depending on past performances etc so that the fastest riders go first and the slowest last so that that does not happen
The people who drive ferraris tend to be pensioners or millionaires and never go above 30mph anyway. Ferrari's are wider than a lot of cars, and certainly groups of cyclists and as a result are harder to overtake. By your logic do they deserve to crash so that their carbon fibre and aluminium car is scattered in pieces as well?
As I said Ben, I know the roads you mean as I used to live in Knutsford. Whenever I saw time trialists they were never in bunches. You do get the odd social group who do ride in bunches, but in my experience they are usually easy to overtake
No could never wish that on such a beautiful machine. Never in a million years. Although I might wish that those people decide to go out for a ride on their pushbike one day and get cleared up by a bus
easy: 6 miles to work, not worth getting the car out & roughly the same time on a bike as well as helping fitness. 300 mile round trip to the KC ... a little bit far to bike as a rule (also too expensive on the train and couldn't make it home after midweek games even if I wanted to).
the amount of discussion this topic has generated shows there is a problem that needs to be addressed. the main problem is having too many people on the roads. round here the roads are crowded and it needs tolerance and a bit of common sense from all the road users to avoid incidents. the vast majority of road users accept that and drive or ride accordingly. unfortunately it only takes a small number of idiots (or just one idiot) on 2 wheels or 4 wheels or even on foot to mess it up for the majority. at the risk of stereotyping those idiots tend to be young and male.
Exactly, I cant get to or from work in rush hour traffic any quicker than 25 minutes. On my bike I generally do it in 18 minutes!
When I used to bike to work from Stockport to Manchester, which is 7 miles, it took me 25 minutes. If I drove it took me 45 minutes to an hour
I use to work in town, I remember one morning stopping at a red light in the left hand lane (left turn and ahead only) with my left indicator on waiting to turn left a couple of bikes came up the cycle lane on the inside and pulled into the cyclist waiting area at the front of the lane (what are those bits called) then a third cyclist came up the inside and just waited next to me, soon a long queue of cyclist were at the lights, when the lights turned to green all the cyclists went straight on stopping me turning left and i was stuck at the lights while they turned red again...................just an example of cyclists not considering other road users As for the argument that the road fund licence or what ever we call it now is for the privilege of owning a car is a load of bollocks its for using your car on the road otherwise you wouldnt be able to get it sorn if you dont use your car on the road
If you want VED to be related to road use, you'd better be prepared to pay a damn site more than you do at the moment as it's nowhere near enough to cover the cost of the repairs needed due to the damage motor vehicles cause to our roads.
I think you'll find that much of the damage being done to the roads is from all the cyclists that keep getting run over.
Vehicle Excise Duty is a licence fee paid to the government to enable you to use your car on the road. Road repairs are part of your Council Tax
So if we get Cheshireben and PB off the roads, not only will lives be saved, but there will less damage to the roads
This bloke gets annoyed with cyclists. Bloody mental. http://www.wjla.com/articles/2012/0...nced-to-17-months-in-prison-video--72721.html
i cycle to n from work , and as i said before the parts of the road i have to use are horrendous . Its all down to the trees , they could either remove the trees on the outer ring road and widen the road area , or just remove the trees as they cause more of the potholes and they are always just outside the gutter , where a cyclist is expected to ride. It really does my head in at the state of some of the roads i use , when there is masses of room on the path and verge that for some reason im not allowed to use .
I cycle two or three times a week, if I ever get sprayed with some ******s windscreen wash they had better hope that they don't have to stop soon after
I haven't read the contents of this thread but I'll just come in and say no where near as much as I do with motorists.
