Cheshire, it's the offence of inconsiderate driving. Same as splashing someone when driving through a puddle. I read a story in a newspaper where a girl failed her driving test when she went through a puddle and splashed someone waiting at a bus stop. The instructor told her she should have stopped and exchanged details with the pedestrian

You seem to delight in your ignorance. Poorly angled screen washers are a traffic offence as is causing danger to other road users by squirting an irritant in their eyes, which is also an assault. It is also a demonstration of inconsiderate driving that can be used against you.

People have been prosecuted for it.

You really do need to think about your attitude, you're far more of a danger on the roads than the cyclists you seem so against.

It could be strict liability, so intent is irrelevant. Same as speeding, doesn't matter why you are speeding you are guilty of the offence. The girl on her driving test that I referred to didn't mean to splash the person at the bus stop but was still guilty of an offence.

It is unlikely to be absolutely necessary to clean your windscreen at the exact moment that you were passing the cyclists so that you sprayed them. You could easily do it before you overtake them or after you have cleared them.

Some cyclists seem to be ok on the road but the majority I come across just dont give a **** about any traffic laws and just do as they want.

Stop at a red light - not if youre a cyclist
Turning left at a junction, give way to traffic - not if youre a cyclist
if on a path cycle lane and it crosses a road, give way to traffic - not if youre a cyclist

Thats my little rant over
The thing is I could also go on about other road users (cars/vans/busses/etc), but its not really cars V cycles its considerate road users V tossers and theres plenty fall into each catagory

Ben, a little scenario for you, but first you need to realise that cars have the least rights of any vehicle on the road. They must at all times cede to other road users such as horses, pedestrians and cyclists. It matters not what you would like the law to be, you have to deal with it as it is or lobby parliament.

Right, you're pushing a child in a pram along the footpath when your way is blocked by a car parked half on the pavement half on the road. Your only option is to go onto the road to get round it. As you're part way round the parked car, I come along. Would you find it acceptable for me to squeeze past or even nudge you, squirting as I went past?

My house happens to be on a road race circuit and through the summer we get hundreds of cyclists flying past all the time, it's really quite impressive.

It's the ****ers with caravans that are the problem.

I live on the Lancashire cycleway and in the summer it is a haven for lycra dressed coffin dodgers seeing how close they can get to meeting the one who made all things bright and beautiful. 3/4 abreast on blind corners chatting about germoline or stopping just after the brow of a steep hill on an A road which claims on average 5 deaths a year is the one that gets me. The road is full of warning signs but the just ignore them and stop for a flask of soup or "to look at the view". They are not popular in these parts

Am I the only one who found the video in the original post hilarious? It's about time someone stood up and taught the ****ers a lesson, he probably deserved it too swaying into the road so the bus couldn't get by then calling the driver a ****er as he passed, they always do it.

I am well and truly with Cheshire here, my drive to work and back is all through country lanes which at any time of the year are sprawling with cyclists. The family/commuters are ok, they stick to the side and obey the rules. It's those ****ers that go out in their gay pink jerseys and skin tight shorts pretending they're Tour de France riders that get on my tits.

This morning for example, there was 3 of them all wearing matching outfits riding side by side taking up MY lane on the road. It's a fast stretch of road, blind corners (as everyone flies the opposite way it's not safe to go on the other lane whatsoever) but you can zip round them probably around 70-80mph in a normal road car. These ****s are all side by side taking up the road and the thing is, they're not even going for it, they're sitting up, wobbling all over the place reaching into their kangaroo pouches on their backs, eating ****ing chocolate bars and having a chat and a natter! I got held up 2-3 minutes because some ****ers wanted to eat ****ing chocolate bars and have a chat and not let me past.

So what I did, and this is no word of a lie, once we hit the straight I overtook nice and slow, called them spineless ****s out the window, just touched the muddy verge, hit the clutch smashed my foot on the accelerator til it redlined, dropped into 2nd dumped the clutch of and sprayed the ****ing bastards with stones and mud, will teach the arrogant arseholes to act like ****ing pricks again.

I get held up by these 'boy racer' cyclists on a daily basis, usually I don't mind so much, but when they're just plodding alond at around 5mph eating chocolate bars and having a natter and are just too lazy or arrogant to let traffic pass, they deserve to be hit by a ****ing bus. Twice.

So Bob, ignoring your desire to speed on what you describe as a dangerous road, the next time you're ambling down a street, looking in shop windows etc as you're legally entitled to do, you'll find it perfectly acceptable for someone to insult you, pour mud on you and hit you at speed with a tonne of metal if you hold them up at all?

I think the authorities should be able to revoke the license of people who seem to pride themselves in being irresponsible and incompetent drivers with little knowledge of the highway code.

I would expect it if I was walking in the middle of the road holding up traffic. What kind of divine right do these cyclists have to just plod along in the middle of the road eating their ****ing lunch and holding traffic up? I'm pretty sure the highway code says cyclists just stay to the left hand side and ride in single file. I'm 100% sure the highway code doesn't say ride next to your mates at 5mph whilst eating your lunch and having a chat, whilst holding up traffic and showing no responsibility whatsoever.

****ing cyclists are ****s, I hope they all die, they should be banned off the roads as should horses.

You can push a pram around a car faster than a motor vehicle arriving from around the corner? Do you wear a cape and have your underpants over your tights?

These "selfish twats" using the road in a way they're perfectly legally entitled to do causing you to slow down (can you smell the irony?), you say they're riding too close to carry out an emergency stop? So what would you have them do Benny, spread out causing them to travel slower as they can't draft thus causing longer tailbacks? Especially if their vision is impared by nuggest squirting detergent in their eyes.

Seriously, you need a refresher course in driving skills as you keep demonstrating an almost total lack of knowledge on teh Highway Code. It is you and your selfish attitude that's a big danger to yourself and other road users.

You need to re-read the highway code Bob. The cyclist has EVERY right to ride as far out as a car would. Taking a lane by moving out far enough to prevent vehicles overtaking until it is safe to do so is recomended. It certailnly doesn'[t say to ride in single file and before someone mentions it again, there's absolutely no requirement to use cycle lanes.

Contrary to some peoples attitudes, it is the motor vehicle that's the intrusion on the roads. They're the vehicles that aren't there as of right.

Excellent idea. Roads are there because of the work of the early cycling lobbyists. Park your car, ignorance and poor attitude and get peddling. <ok>

Dutch you've run into a dead end, dug yourself a hole and put a lid on top of it.

How is a car an intrusion on the roads?
A cyclist has every right to ride as far out in the lane as he wants, but you ignore the fact that the highway code doesn't say ride side by side at a deathly slow speed with your mates whilst eating your lunch and having a chat? Maybe cars should start doing that rolling along at idle speed in first gear, lets see how cyclists like that, specially when they're called a ****er for overtaking.
It's reccomended that cyclists swerve out to prevent overtaking? I'll take that into consideration, next time a cyclist wants to come up my inside at traffic lights or in a jam, I will pull across to block his path.
Roads are there because of romans and all our ancestors building them. Not ****ing cyclists. Are you saying we used to drag our wagons cross country in historic times? Are you saying the highwayman was actually a fieldman? Get a grip, you're just wearing rose tinted glasses and trying to defend the undefendable, and further strengthening our points that cyclists are arrogant obnoxious ****s.

Just take a step back and listen to yourself, you sound like you're impying that the road belongs to cyclists, nothing else belongs there, raods are only there because of cyclists and that car drivers are ****ers.

Irony?

So because cyclists slow you down for up for a maximum of 3 minutes (and realistically a lot less than that) they deserve to be run over by a bus, covered in mud and stones and/or squirted with screen wash?? <doh>

I hope me and my sons and niece never encounter you on roads when we're on our bikes!!!

Family riders don't annoy me whatsoever, and as I said before slowing down for bikes isn't a problem, it doesn't annoy me. It's only the obnoxious twats who think they're Tour de France racers who take up the road, eating their lunch and having a chat whilst showing no regard to traffic waiting behind them. They definitely deserve to be hit by a bus, if only for a reality check.

Hammond, a keen cyclist, had been talking in last night’s episode – the segment starts 21 minutes 27 seconds in – about last week’s BBC News feature about cylists wearing helmetcams “so they can video examples of road rage and people cutting them up on their bikes,” to which Clarkson interjected, “But cyclists deserve it,” the exchange continuing:

Hammond: “Don’t say that!”

Clarkson: “But they do deserve it, honestly. The other week, no honestly, there I am sitting in a traffic jam in London” – oh, the irony – “and a Frenchman, he was tried to cycle between the pavement and my car and after he’d removed most of the paint with his brake handle thing he came round to the drivers door to tell me off in that silly accent French people have.”

Hammond: “What, a French accent?”

Clarkson: “Yes, that, and I said to him, listen if you just work hard you can have a car.”

Hammond: “You are exactly the reason why I want a camera on my bicycle helmet when I cycle.”

Clarkson: “Why?”

Hammond: “When idiots like you get out of their car having cut me up – ”

Clarkson: “Who pays the road tax?”

Hammond: “Well – ”

Clarkson: “I’m sorry, I don’t mind if cyclists want to come on the road with their silly Victorian distractions, I’m not bothered, but they must behave themselves.”

Even Jeremy Clarkson agrees with me, point proven.
