I remember watching a clip on YouTube from a Question Time when the issue of the death penalty was brought up. Ian Hislop was on the panel and he explained that Private Eye had run a piece for 50 or so years looking into miscarriages of justice, of which many were murder cases, in which the conviction was proven to be wrong and the accused innocent of the crime, and had the death penalty been available to the Judges then those innocent people would have been hanged. So from his standpoint it would be wrong and impracticle to still have it. You are so right MAJR, there have been some terrible mistakes made, probably the worst by far was poor Derek Bentley, which was 100% the cozzers extracting revenge because Craig was too young too hang.
