just in ...... Social workers have visited the home of Kate and Gerry McCann to see if their other two children should be placed on the "at risk" register or taken into care. The McCanns had invited child protection experts to their Leicestershire home after being warned that officials would want to visit to check that their twins, Sean and Amelie, were being properly cared for. But officials stressed it was standard practice for social workers to investigate the welfare of children in such cases. Social workers can in theory decide to take children into care or place them on the "at need" or "at risk" registers. It is not known what was decided at Thursday's meeting. The visit came as speculation mounted that Mrs McCann will be called back to the Algarve in the next few days to face further questioning. It is understood relatives will step in to look after the twins if the couple are forced to return to Portugal by police. Madeleine's aunt Philomena McCann said Mrs McCann was terrified the twins might be taken. "Of course they're worried about having the children taken away from them - which rational person wouldn't be?" she said. Mr McCann's brother, John McCann, said: "They will co-operate with anyone who has the family's best interests at heart." There were further damaging reports in the Portuguese press on Thursday as Mrs McCann was portrayed as a woman who struggled to cope with her "hysterical" children. The tabloid Correio da Manha ran the headline: "Kate insults her children in her diary." It said Mrs McCann frequently complained that her children were "hysterical" with so much excess energy that she was left exhausted. The daily newspaper Publico also said Mrs McCann wrote of her concerns about her children's behaviour and her trouble disciplining them in her diary. It is understood the Portuguese police have made photocopies of the diary, which public prosecutors handed over to the investigating judge, Pedro Daniel dos Anjos Frias. He is considering the 10 volumes of evidence in the case which he received on Tuesday. As police were on standby to make more searches, unconfirmed reports emerged of blood found in a second apartment, near the McCanns' Ocean Club apartment. There were also claims that body fluids found in the boot of the car hired by the McCanns 25 days after their daughter disappeared showed traces of a "heavy" dose of sleeping pills. Madeleine McCann: Police seize mother's diary Portuguese sources quoted by France Soir, a French daily newspaper, said the liquid discovered in the car was "body fluid" whose DNA matched Madeleine's. They claimed toxicology tests on the fluid "prove the little girl had ingested medicine, without doubt sleeping pills, in large quantities." It is now over 2000 days since Madeleine, then aged three, disappeared from the family's apartment in Praia da Luz on May 3. Detectives in Portugal are working on the theory that Mrs McCann may have killed her daughter by accident and asked her husband to help cover it up, a theory dismissed as "ludicrous" by the couple.
social workers ...thats a news story from 2007 mate http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1563089/Social-workers-check-on-McCanns-children.html
Probably just to shock people. Some of this 'evidence' has been so surpressed by the McCann lawyers that it seems new and shocking when you see it printed as 'news' like that.
Just as a footnote, I have a beautiful 3 year old daughter and as a 56 year old, caring for her daily in my situation takes its toll. Every night I take her to bed at 7pm, read her a story and go into her world. My greatest feeling as I leave the bedroom 15mins later is to hear her words "I love you daddy" and my words to her of thank you for a beautiful day Ella, be up to check you soon. Her mam has never been able to do or hear that so I work for us both. I would kill if a hair of my Ellas head was ever hurt..

No mate, I agree with that. What I'm saying is that those 1000 people who all called in needn't have been on holiday at the time...99% of them will have just seen the e-fit and thought it looked like someone they know and called in
