Try taking it in to `Refurbit` just down Wassand street opposite the new health centre...The guy behind the counter is called Adam and he`s really helpful...they got all the data off my daughters knackered laptop...cant remember what they charged but it was in the tens of pounds rather than the hundreds

Slave the HDD to a PC and see if it picks it up and then copy the data across, could be the connection from the caddy to the HDD which could be faulty.
