I'd rather have that than a diet coke.

Yeah - like anyone on Kingswood is gonna have oregano or tomato puree in the cupboard - that's student pizza, depending on the time of the loan-period, obviously.

Immediately after payment it's take-away from anywhere still open at 4 am with a side of herbal marajuana rolled from L&B gold ***s as a special treat using speciality over-size "skins" - usually from a packet with a naked police-woman motif and including extra pre-cut card, or "roach material" as it is commonly known.

Whoever has been to Uni in the last 15 years will know this is the case, particularly if you have studied a social science or humanity.

"Council-house pizza" is unbranded ketchup, some of that mild, coloured, plastic "cheddar" bought in big blocks from Heron or Farmfoods on thick-sliced quid per loaf Hovis, served with a side of value-brand microchips, more of the aforementioned "cheese" melted over them, and accompanied by Kestrel lager or "frosty Jack" cider.

In the modern era, this often comes as a direct progression following graduation in either a social science or humanity - at least since 2010 that is; though anyone who has been there will know this is only partially true, largely because there are no council houses available any more.

They've all been repossessed since the sub-prime "right to buy" market went tits up and have been auctioned off to absentee landlords based in the South-East or Harrogate areas, now commanding extortionate rents which are subsidised by the taxpayer through the benefits system....

.... that is of course apart from those few which were flogged on the cheap to those looking to diversify their local convenience store "empire's" and are easily identifiable by their poor state of repair, and similarly command extortionate rents which are subsidised by the taxpayer through the benefits system.

That is according to my god-son anyway, though I have every faith in his judgement.

Well, when he's not stoned, listening Captain Beef-heart and eating chilli-dorito's at least. He's a bright enough kid, just hasn't much to live for which has me thinking back to my old-skool Megadeth days and wondering whether the concept of "Youthenasia" isn't in-fact a more humane option than reality after all.

Rant over. I'm off to play champ on my 'droid in bed and long for being a student and not having to work again.

If you're going for posh cheese on toast it would have to be a sexy little combo including griddled sour-dough bread, Monterey Jack cheese, melted under the grill with sliced cherry vine tomatoes and a good sprinkling of Lee and Perrins. I have no problem with additions such as bacon, salami, ham, mushroom etc, but personally I'd probably go for something relatively simple like a few dry-smoked bacon lardons and a chopped spring onion, seasoned up with a twist of black pepper.

Saying that though, who the **** wants to pay a fiver for 4 rounds of cheese on toast at 12:30 am on a Saturday night after you've got too pissed and forgotten to eat anything proper? That's the precise scenario Donner kebabs were invented for. Plus you're less likely to burn the house down that way also.

Toad in the hole for me earlier, though tomorrow is leg of lamb, roasted medium in a decent merlot with whole challottes and studded with garlic and rosemary, seasoned with sea salt, black pepper and grated lemon zest. Will serve with baked morello's, blanched then griddled Chanteray's and asparagus glazed with butter and probably crunchy King Edwards roasted and seasoned with a semolina crust 'cos that's what I have in. Wine from the lamb will be the base of a reduction sauce, ad I'll probably stick some Yorkies in also as I have batter from tonight left over.

It's an autumn dish really - though the lamb is less flavoursome and more tender at this time of year, hence the pinkness. Doesn't much feel like summer any more up on the North East coast though, so I guess it fits. Home grown rhubarb and grated ginger crumble served hot with very cold home-made vanilla ice-cream to finish, along with the other bottle of Merlot.

What the **** is a tartiflette by the way? I could google it and appear knowledgeable, but I can't be bothered.

    What the hell is tartiflette?

Maybe we should have a Recipe thread like Chazz's book one.

    Sounds good.

To make tartiflette par boil thickly sliced potatoes. Gently fry onions and bacon then mix into the spuds gently. Intersperse the cheese (i use raclette but that is hard to find here). Pour over some double cream and add some dried chilli flakes then put oven st 220 for 15 mins. It is a winter warming dish but as you say the weather has been ****e.

Vic I did enjoy with a nice vin rouge and the wife and kids company. Hope alls well with you and yours

Please be careful with your introduction of substances such as beans, we don't want another thread going off-topic.

Well apart from Sting obviously who's a **** and shouldnt be allowed in em.
