On August 14, 2011, AMC announced that Breaking Bad was renewed for a fifth and final season consisting of 16 episodes.[4] The season will be split into two parts, each consisting of 8 episodes. The first half premiered on July 15, 2012, with the second half premiering in summer 2013.[5]

Breaking Bad is good. I have only watched 5/6 episodes and it is definitely as good as I'd heard... I think it's popular because it reaches a lot of ages groups... and everyone can see the appeal in a show talking about a man reinventing himself after some bad news.

But I find the characters (other than the main guy who is ****ing brilliant), a bit boring and annoying more than anything.

I love Dexter too, probably slightly more than BB

As far as comedies go I'd really recommend two comedies, probably the best written american comedies and most under-rated. If you've never laughed at How I met your mother like me then give these a try.
Community, is my all time favourite comedy. The cast is brilliant, (the legendary Chevy Chase is brilliant) it is so smartly written and the acting is really good. I'm not saying everyone will love it , I think the references and all would probably suit 20-30 years olds but I really think everyone should give it a try.

Any show that take 3 years and 3 different seasons to use a pop culture reference like Beetlejuice is legendary in my eyes. (for those who don't know, beetlejuice appears once you say his name three times)

The other show is not ongoing but they are renewing a last season and a film.

It is Arrested Development and it is single-handedly, in my opinion the most well written show. You don't even realise how good it is at first. It makes you laugh, which is great but there's so much more, I can't even explain, but the jokes and the writing really blows your mind.these guys are ****ing geniuses.

Otherwise I watch Walking dead because I'm a fan of the comics, Fringe is my all time favourite sci-fi show, I'd really recommend it if You liked Xfiles, it is miles better in my opinion.
I need to watch Games of thrones, I've heard lots of good stuff about it.

Finally, there's a show I can't even put into a category... i suppose it's closest similarities are King of the Hill , in the way it looks and some of the humour but the story is totally different. Ugly Americans .
Not laugh out loud but a good watch

The characters are so amazing in Breaking Bad, they develop a lot throughout the seasons. Every single character has a side that you hate, and most have a side that you love, it is hard to paint anybody as a "goodie" or "baddie".

I have watched Dexter up to the end of Season 3, and I sort of got bored. The first season was amazing, but I think the show lost a bit of steam (though I hear Season 4 is very good), but Breaking Bad gets better and better every single season.

Season 4 is really quite amazing of Dexter, you should keep watchin! Well I will give BB benefit of the doubt but yeh I think it's likely to be the actors more so than the characters that bother me.

The reason why BrBa is so good is because it develops characters, you know each of their personalities and know how they will react. On top of this, Jesse is one of the best characters on TV. AMC makes great shows usually.

Breaking Bad> Mad Men > The Walking Dead

BB series one was on 5 USA in 2010.
Seies 2 was shown continuous nights around Christmas and NY 2010 hence it went under the radar.
Next series have not been aired.
Get the DVDs off E bay and watch them straight through. That way you get into the characters and dont have to wait until aired.

If nothing else, this thread says there is a lot of good TV coming out of the US right now whichever of these series you think is the best. It wasn't always the way. Remember the dross we used to get?

In the 80s/90s when I lived over there I was always looking to what was new coming out of the UK. Now its the other way round for the most part.

What good British series have there been recently? I'll start with The Fades and maybe Being Human (her indoors told me to say that). What else is good right now?

yes, I forgot about that. Sherlock was class.

Much better than the Robert Downey / Jude Law movies.
