Poor Nathan has had to retire from the game through injury. He has been thanking GFC on Twitter

Just received some heartbreaking news, I've been forced to retire from football through injury. So upsetting that I have to stop playing something that I've devoted so much time to and something that I really loved doing, there's no better feeling than playing the game..

I would like to thank @TheGillsFC for all the support that they have given me over the 7 years that I've been here for, I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and met some great people/friends. I'll try to stay positive because as one door closes another opens, God has a plan

Good luck to the lad in the future...will always remember the smile and celebration after his goal at Burton

ps not sure why there is a smiley in the subject...not a happy topic. Admin please delete if possible

Shame really. I was expecting him to break into the first team this year but just too many people ahead of him. Looked a talent too. All the best Nathan!

I wondered what had happened to the lad, last time i remember seeing him is when he came on at Burton last season. Sorry to hear this news and wish him all the best in any future career.

How sad - reminder that it's not an easy career and all to often is terminated by injury or loss of form for whatever reason

All the best to an ex Gill
