Goose Island is from Chicago Beth. But there are more micro breweries and places to drink craft beer in the US than you can shake a stick at nowadays, it's brilliant.
On a 2002 NYC visit a bus trip out to Harlem was an interesting experience passing the enormous unfinished Cathedral of St. John the Divine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathedral_of_Saint_John_the_Divine please log in to view this image In Harlem there is the famous Apollo theatre. please log in to view this image While my wife shopped for clothes in Harlem for a couple of hours, I wandered around meeting a street vendor selling postcards of lynchings in the deep south - that stuff true brother he told me. I seemed to be the only white guy on the street that day. When I rejoined my wife we tasted our first ever Crispy Kreme donuts, then shopped for our kids across the street at a Disney store. We did the boat tour of Manhattan, Ellis Island, but the Statue of Liberty was still closed after 911. I really enjoyed walking in Central Park, the art galleries and we caught the Mama Mia Broadway show with cheap standing tickets located behind a railing for support, so a bit like the old days on the terraces at Loftus Road. We stayed with friends of my wife who worked at the Canadian Embassy, so had we pretty ritzy digs. The scenery encountered on the taxi ride out to Newark NJ airport reminded me of the opening of The Sopranos.
Ah...but it was nice...but as you say the micro brewerys in NY were outstanding, even if they sold Chicago beer
Thanks for all the replies guys. As I said, have done lots of the suggestions before and will be doing them again with the wife. Will definitely check out The Highline, Katz's, The Hat Shop and a few of the smaller galleries mentioned. Great suggestions and replies so far.....any more are most welcome. Thanks to all
Staying at the New Yorker like I did previously which is just across the street....so will look into this.....was very surprised when the wife said she would be up for a basketball game! Lol
Same hotel I stayed at......very small rooms but a great 'Art Deco' feel to it.'We really enjoyed our stay.
Any idea if they have a website Chaz, can't seem to find one? Will definitely check it out anyway, cheers
The best hat shop is the JJ Hat centre on 34th and 5th by the Empire Stet Building. http://www.jjhatcenter.com But around there are plenty of Baseball cap places that sell to tourists. There are also plenty of sports stores that have official NY team hats and T-shirts etc dotted around that area.
