I thought Rafa did a solid job. I just don't want to be covered in his jizz. I thought Pardew also did a solid job. Indeed I think McClaren showed us just how competent Rafa and Pardew were.
I think pretty much every manager in Ashley's tenure has done a solid job. Partially because I think the influence of managers in football is actually fairly minimal. They can set the tone, do a few motivational team talks, but I can't subscribe to Guardiola or Poch or Mourinho having a level of genius.
Well as long as you don't suggest that Rafa isn't a genius or they'll put you in stocks in Newcastle City Centre. It will be rocks not tomatoes though.
Nobody thinks he was a genius. People loved him because he gave **** back to the Owner who nobody likes. Yeah, that might be bad crack, yes he might be selfish, but his fundamental role as manager is to get the players and fans pulling in the same direction, and unilaterally they were. He emphasised how **** the squad was to dampen expectation, which is no small feat amongst our fan base. Whether he did a great, good, average or otherwise job here is up for a pointless discussion, but I think as a whole we are looking on towards our impending doom.
Who cares? I don't even care he was a Mackem to be fair. It's good he has no say in transfers because his last good one was Dugarry, but other than that his hands are as tied as with any other manager. We've sold our top scorer and not snapped up our second top scorer, replacing them with a lad from the French league, which we have had mixed success with, and a raw striker. It would be a tough season whoever is in charge.
No, why would I? If we signed 2011 Andy Carroll he'd be worth mentioning. We haven't. We have signed a player who has been blighted by injury for 8 years and let go from West Ham because what talent he did have has long since evaporated. You might be excited about this transfer if you had been in a coma for those 8 years, or if you were a child. He'll sell a few shirts, get on the pitch a couple of times in the last ten minutes and ramp up the noise in the stadium if we are losing, but he won't be scoring many.
Do you not think he will be fit a bit more now? Yes, if you are full on injured then fair enough but if you are playing for "your club" then you are more likely to play through those niggly injuries
Quite simply, no. He has been on ridiculous wages to represent Liverpool and West Ham, so I don't think there would be a suitable excuse for trying any harder to be fit here. I have nothing against him, it would be great if this worked out for everyone concerned, but there's a reason he has been given a one year deal. I thoroughly expect him to do what I've said, and be a crowd lifter with ten minutes to go.
I assume he must have a play for pay deal. I agree his positive impact, if any, would come from off the bench. If he gets fit, he is probably better than Rondon was (I liked Rondon) and gives Brucie some interesting tactical choices.
I take it McLaren is the exception. Do agree that the media love in with some managers is simply ridiculous. Even Pouchy would win the League with Man City...well, at least get in the top 4...well, not be in a relegation fight...well...

Welcome back JPF. For the record I had him pinned as a Mackem too and really had to dig into cyber space to get to the bottom of who this poster was. I should have just texted him a few weeks ago rather than get all columbo on him
