I think a fitting tribute to a Newcastle Legend who has been taken at such a young age.

I'm sure Peter Lovenkrands wont mind.

    RIP Gary

He can't change his number unless he leaves.

  3. How about changing the east end to the Gary Speed stand. And the Leazes end to the Sir Bobby Robson stand.

Double bonus <ok>. We get to respect a legend and get rid of Lovenkrands!

I'm sure the Premier League can give special dispensation for this.

Ha, he's alright! Would rather keep him than that **** Ranger.

Ranger should really look at how Speed presented himself on and off the pitch and take a leaf out his book

And everywhere else to people who were here before the 21st century? We had this discussion over Bobby before, and as much as he is a personal hero of mine there are a lot of people who've done more for the club than Bobby or Speedo.

Minutes silence/applause on Saturday, no doubt an awful lot of chants throughout, but renaming stands and retiring numbers? Not for me.

No disrespect to either speed or robson, both in my eyes are modern day legends, but the leazes end is already named after a man who did far more this club than both of them, sir john hall

Some people are really overreacting on this. Its a sad time and no-one likes hearing of an ex player dying (no matter what the circumstances are) but really... naming a stand after Speed or retiring the 11 shirt is just too far. He was a good player for us, but its not as if he was a geordie born and bred, played for Newcastle his whole career or the bets player weve had in recent time... He arguably wasnt even at his very best with us.

The tributes that have been coming through and the minutes silence/applause (whivever happens at the weekend) are fine.
